If you’re wondering if there is a Final Fantasy 16 PC release date – we’re going over the latest you will need to know here.

Final Fantasy 16 is currently a PS5 exclusive, for now. As a six-month timed exclusive on PlayStation, other platforms won’t see the game until that time has elapsed. While this might disappoint gamers on Xbox and PC – it does also open up the possibility of the game launching with far fewer bugs and glitches that games often see upon release.

We don’t know exactly when it’s coming – but at least we know it’s coming. There’s a few bits of confirmed information out there that we can use to base our release date speculation off – so let’s get into it.

Final Fantasy 16 PC release date speculation

While it’s releasing on the PlayStation console primarily, it’s been confirmed by Square Enix’s Naoki Yoshida to arrive on PC at some point in the future – but when exactly?

In a blog post on the official Japanese PlayStation site, Yoshida said that while “Final Fantasy XVI is a six-month limited time exclusive on the PS5” it’s also the case that “the PC version will not come out in half a year”.

Alongside this, while the game hasn’t completed its six-month exclusivity yet on PlayStation, Yoshida did confirm that a PC version of the game is in development. Yoshida is expecting to spend much more than half a year optimising the game, which is actually a breath of fresh air among a slurry of games released with minor frustrating issues plaguing their launches.

For now, the only way you’re going to be able to play Final Fantasy 16 is on PS5. However, with PS Remote Play you could potentially stream it to your PC, or even play FFXVI on your ASUS ROG Ally through this method too. However – we know this isn’t really the same thing at all.

At the very least, Yoshida noted that we’ll likely learn more about the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 near the end of 2023 which means we shouldn’t expect a PC release of the game until 2024 at the earliest.

Final Fantasy 16 PC release expectations

When Final Fantasy 16 PC finally releases – we’re going to be expecting some key differences from the PS5 version.

As you may have seen in our best settings for Final Fantasy 16, there’s not a huge amount of graphical options. With the PC release, we’d expect to see many more options for gamers to fiddle with. Final Fantasy 15 on PC never saw ray tracing, though with the new game engine developed for FFXVI, we could definitely see some changes there.

We’d expect higher resolutions and frame-rates, alongside support for the best ultrawide displays, but aside from that we’re likely going to see minor changes to the gameplay.

We haven’t had a hands-on with the PS5 edition of the game yet, so we can’t really speculate what these gameplay differences might end up looking like, but the chances of minor tweaks here and there is quite high.

While the release for a PC edition of Final Fantasy 16 is far, far away, we’re still looking forward to it. We’re going to be updating this page as often as possible to make sense of when the PC edition might launch, but for now we’re only really going to be able to go off the hints that Naoki Yoshida has gifted us.
