Though Elden Ring Nightreign is designed as a co-op experience where three players chart a path across the dangerous Limveld across the span of three days before taking on a Nightlord, FromSoftware has integrated a single player option. It allows you to take on an Expedition alone without two other players.

While I’d strongly urge you to avoid playing alone due to the difficulty of surviving solo, the option is useful for scouting out the map, practicising, and getting a firm handle on Nightreign’s new mechanics, including new traversal options. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to play single player Expeditions in Elden Ring Nightreign.

How to start a single player Expedition in Elden Ring Nightreign

Before you can play a single player Expedition, you’ll first need to complete the tutorial, which will walk you through the basics of combat and traversal, and make it to the Roundtable Hold for the first time.

To start a single player Expedition, head over to the Table of Lost Grace at the center of the Roundtable Hold and tap Commence Expedition. In the menu that pops up, cycle through to Matchmaking Settings (the icon of person with a cog wheel) and navigate down to the last section called Expedition Type. Switch the setting from Multiplayer to Single Player.

Cycle back to the Target tab, select a Nightlord (you’ll only have the Tricephalos Expedition to start with, which pits you against Gladius, Beast of Night) then tap Commence Solo Expedition. This will start the Expedition. After a short cutscene, you’ll drop into Limveld solo and can play through the match without any allies.
