Wondering what is a Moniker in Dragon’s Dogma 2 character creator? While confusing at first, it exists for a very good, mainly to weed out what are considered offensive names. But, rather than something you’ll need to dwell on for ages, it’s a minor part of the character creation process.

We’ll walk you through everything you need to know about Dragon’s Dogma 2 Monikers. For more DD2 help, check out the full Dragon’s Dogma 2 trophy list and whether or not Capcom’s highly-anticipated sequel is considered a Souls-like or not.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Moniker explained

A Moniker in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a secondary name you get to choose for your character and your main Pawns during character creation. When choosing a Moniker, you’ll have access to a massive list of options, including standard names like Jon and even a few classic Capcom characters. While confusing, Monikers are implemented in Dragon’s Dogma 2 for a good reason.

Put simply, a Dragon’s Dogma 2 Moniker acts as an alternative name in case your main chosen name includes questionable language, insults, unsavoury references, and profanities that don’t pass the profanity filter when parental controls are enabled.

Monikers will be used when accessing multiplayer portions of the game, such as recruiting other players’ Pawns in a Rift if the Pawn’s name is flagged up by the profanity filter. The same applies the other way around: if you settle on a name that contains expletives, for example, other players will see your chosen Moniker instead.

All in all, unless you’re really pushing the limits with your chosen character or Pawn names, the Moniker is nothing more than a formality and mainly there to protect other players.

That’s all there is to Dragon’s Dogma 2 Monikers. For more guides, check out when we can expect the next Dragon’s Dogma 2 patch and how long you’ll need to set aside to beat Dragon’s Dogma 2 and hit the credits.
