At its heart, the Vessel of Hatred expansion is a continuation of Diablo 4’s story, which means a brand new, meaty campaign for rookie and returning players to get stuck into. It picks off at the end of Act VI and charts Neyrelle’s journey into the jungle region of Natandu. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how much time you’ll want to set aside to beat the campaign, which is, if you ask veteran Diablo players, when the game starts in earnest.

How long does it take to beat the Vessel of Hatred campaign

The Vessel of Hatred campaign takes approximately 10-12 hours to complete. That tallies up to around half the length of the base campaign, which you can skip if you want to dive into the DLC immediately. Not too bad for an expansion if you ask us. Your mileage will, of course, vary depending on the difficulty level you choose and how accustomed you are to Diablo 4’s mechanics and design idiosyncrasies. First time players are likely to take a few more hours before wrapping up the story.

Beyond the campaign, the expansion is stacked with fresh content. There are 35 optional quests, 20 dungeons, and 30 Tenets of Akarat (VoH’s version of the base game’s Altars of Lilith that grant regional Renown, skill points, health potion upgrades, and more). We estimate another 4-5 hours of playtime to get through all this.

Then, you’ll also want to factor in time spent in the Kurast Undercity. In this repeatable time-attack dungeon, players start a 100 second timer and must battle through multiple floors to take on a final boss, gaining more time and rewards for defeating enemies.

✓ New class

The expansion also introduces the brand new Spiritborn, an agile warrior class that channel animal spirits for some seriously fun combat. We recommend a Spiritborn campaign playthrough.

Finishing the campaign also unlocks the Dark Citadel, a co-op endgame dungeon for two to four players made up of three distinct sections with puzzles to solve, challenges to beat, and plenty of enemies to defeat. It features Weekly Cache rewards to prompt return visits much like World Bosses so there’s no cap on how much time you can spend replaying the dungeon with friends.

All things considered, we can see the average player that completes the campaign and samples a good chunk of the side content spending a solid 20-25 hours playing Vessel of Hatred. For dedicated players, we can see this figure surging into the hundreds of hours quite easily.
