Are you looking for how to get Nightmare Sigils in Diablo 4? These hard-to-find items are the key to unlocking Nightmare Dungeons in the endgame, one of the best activities you can complete while working your way to level 100.
Getting into Nightmare Dungeons is one of the best activities you can complete for farming Diablo 4 legendaries and to help you level up fast in Diablo 4. However, you won’t be able to enter them without the Nightmare Sigils first. We’re here to show you how to get these elusive items.
Where to get Nightmare Sigils in Diablo 4
There are three different ways you can obtain Nightmare Sigils in Diablo 4:
- Reward Caches from the Tree of Whispers
- Random enemy and monster drops in Nightmare Dungeons
- Drops from World Bosses
Each of these can reward you with Nightmare Sigils, however, if you’re just beginning we’d recommend getting them from the Tree of Whispers.
It’s important to note that you need to be in Diablo 4 World Tier 3 or higher to obtain them. The items won’t be useful until you beat the campaign and reach character level 50 anyway, so make sure to do that first. As soon as you finish the campaign, the Tree of Whispers priority quest will pop up and encourage you to get your first Nightmare Sigil by completing Grim Favors.
Aside from earning them in drops and loot caches, you can also get them from crafting.
How to Craft Nightmare Sigils in Diablo 4
Aside from earning Diablo 4 Nightmare Sigils, you can also craft them at the Occultist NPC using Sigil Powder. Sigil Powder is obtained by salvaging unwanted Nightmare Sigils in your inventory. You can begin crafting after you’ve beaten your first Nightmare Dungeon.
Nightmare Sigil crafting takes a good amount of Sigil Powder and gold, so make sure you have both to spare. You can always get gold fast if you need to. The higher the tier of Sigil, the more powder and gold it will take to craft. There are two types of Nightmare Sigils to craft: Sacred Sigils and Ancestral Sigils. Sacred is used for World Tier 3 (meaning Nightmare Dungeons up to Tier 20), and Ancestral is used for World Tier 4 (all dungeons higher than Tier 20).
Sigil Type | Tier | Cost |
Sacred | 1-5 | 3 Sigil Powder & 4,000 Gold |
6-10 | 6 Sigil Powder & 6,000 Gold
11-15 | 11 Sigil Powder & 8,000 Gold
16-20 | 20 Sigil Powder & 10,000 Gold
Ancestral | 21-25 | 50 Sigil Powder & 13,000 Gold |
26-30 | 80 Sigil Powser & 16,000 Gold
31-35 | 125 Sigil Powder & 19,000 Gold
36-40 | 190 Sigil Powder & 22,000 Gold
41-50 | 275 Sigil Powder & 26,000 Gold
51-60 | 350 Sigil Powder & 30,000 Gold
61-70 | 375 Sigil Powder & 35,000 Gold

How to use Nightmare Sigils in Diablo 4
Once you’ve got your hands on the item, it’s time to unlock the Nightmare Dungeon. All you need to do is head into your inventory to the consumables tab, select which Sigil you’d like, and use it. Then, your map will have a red dot showing which Nightmare Dungeon you’ve unlocked.
From there, you can make your way to that dungeon and begin playing one of the most rewarding endgame activities Diablo 4 has to offer. Make sure to check out our best Diablo 4 Pulverize Druid build to really take advantage of the endgame.
