Want to learn about Invoker of Varshan in Diablo 4? Invokers are a neat addition to Diablo 4 in Season 1 that lets you fight a boss multiple times by using the right item. However, players have been struggling to use this tool to summon an Echo of Varshan.

There is only one place where you can use the Invoker of Varshan and here’s how to use it. Check out our Diablo 4 Malignant Hearts guide to get up to speed with the latest game mechanics. With Season of the Malignant in full swing, it’s best to be prepared.

How to get Diablo 4 Invoker of Varshan in Season 1

The Invoker of Varshan in Diablo 4 Season 1 can be crafted with the recipe you get from Cormond after finishing the final Season of the Malignant quest, A Merciful Fate. The Invoker of Varshan can be used in a Malignant Tunnel on a Malignant Pustule only in World Tier 1 or 2 difficulties to summon an Echo of Varshan. Even if you’ve made major progress in the seasonal quest line, you won’t be able to use this item on a higher difficulty.

It’s an odd oversight from the devs and I hope they resolve it quickly. Craft an Invoker of Varshan at Cormond’s Workbench. You can find one near the Kyovashad waypoint in the seasonal campaign. Use the following materials to craft it in Diablo 4 Season 1:

  • Brutal Malignant Invoker x1
  • Vicious Malignant Invoker x1
  • Devious Malignant Invoker x1
  • Demon’s Heart x1
  • 1000 Gold

How to use Diablo 4 Invoker of Varshan in Season 1

To use the Invoker of Varshan, complete a Malignant Tunnel Dungeon in World Tier 1 or 2, find a Wooden Door, and use the Invoker on a Monstrous Outgrowth. Malignant Tunnel Dungeons can be distinguished by the small leaf icon on the right side of their markers.

While this Wooden Door can appear in any Malignant Tunnel, the Ravening Pit Malignant Tunnel in the Dry Steppes region has a better chance of having it. I wish there was more than a random chance to duel against the game’s new boss. The Wooden Door at the end of Malignant Tunnels will have a glow with chains around it.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to activate the Invoker of Varshan in Diablo 4 Season 1:

  • Complete the Malignant Tunnel Dungeon.
  • Find a Wooden Door with chains. While one path at the end of a Malignant Tunnel will let you use Wrathful and Brutal Invokers, head to the other path to find the Wooden Door. You’ll spot it at a dead end near a healing well.
  • Open this door and you’ll trigger an Echo of Varshan event. You’ll also spot a singular outgrowth near the entrance of this door.
  • Use the Invoker on a Monstrous Outgrowth to begin the Echo of Varshan boss fight.

Diablo 4 Foul Invoker of Varshan and Tormented Invoker of Varshan

To use this item on higher difficulties, beat the boss in the previous difficulty tier. Defeat the Echo of Varshan in World Tier 2 to unlock the Foul Invoker of Varshan Recipe for World Tier 3 difficulty in Diablo 4 Season 1. To craft a Foul Invoker of Varshan, you’ll need an Invoker of Varshan and 50 Sigil Powder. This is earned by dismantling Nightmare Sigils.

Similarly, beating the Echo of Varshan in World Tier 3 will unlock the Tormented Invoker of Varshan Recipe. To craft a Tormented Invoker of Varshan, you’ll need an Invoker of Varshan, five Fiend Roses, and five Forgotten Souls. This will let you access the Echo of Varshan in World Tier 4. Just like the regular Invoker of Varshan, you can use these on the Monstrous Outgrowth in a Malignant Tunnel. The difficulty of these Echoes scales based on the Tier level of the Invoker used at the entrance in-game.
