Hot on the heels of lawyers finally dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s on Xbox’s highly-publicised $69 billion acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, Black Ops 6 is the first Call of Duty to launch under the watchful eye of Microsoft. It all begs the question of whether you’ll be able to load in if you’re forking out for a monthly Game Pass sub. The short answer is yes, Black Ops 6 will be playable on Game Pass as long as you have the right membership. We’ll walk you through all the details below.
Black Ops 6 on Game Pass explained
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is the first CoD title to launch on Xbox Pass on day one to coincide with the worldwide launch, however it’s not quite that simple with access only reserved for certain membership tiers. Over to a table to lay it all out:
Tier | Platform | Includes Black Ops 6 Day One | Edition | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|
Game Pass Core | Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S | No | N/A | £6.99/$9.99/month |
Game Pass Standard | Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S | No | N/A | £10.99/$14.99/month |
Game Pass Ultimate | Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC | Yes | Cross-Gen Bundle or PC Standard Edition | £14.99/$19.99/month |
Game Pass PC | PC | Yes | PC Standard Edition | £9.99/$11.99/month |
You’ll need an active Game Pass Ultimate subscription to play Black Ops 6 on an Xbox console. On PC, you’ll need either an active Game Pass Ultimate or Game Pass PC subscription. If you do have the option, the £9.99/month Game Pass PC tier is the most economical at £9.99 / $11.99 for a month’s subscription.
Rather shrewdly, or cynically, depending on where you stand, Xbox has opted to scrap its $1 two-week Game Pass taster trial just in time for Black Ops 6’s launch. In other words, there’s no way to play Black Ops 6 on the cheap and storm through the campaign and dabble in multiplayer for a quick two week stint. You’ll need to pay the full cost of a month’s subscription for the Ultimate or the PC tiers if you want to jump in on Game Pass.
There is, however, one loop hole, but that only applies to those with an active legacy Xbox Game Pass for console subscription, which is no longer available to new members. If you’ve been keeping up with automatic Xbox Game Pass for console payments then you’ll have access to Black Ops 6 on day one, October 25, 2024.
Is Black Ops 6 coming to other Game Pass tiers?
The short answer is we simply don’t know. There’s been no official news either way. Xbox may gate off access to prompt members to upgrade their subscription. Conversely, it may be planning to bring the game to lower tier libraries later on once the initial launch hype has died down. What we can safely say is that if Xbox is bringing it to the Core and Standard tiers, whether that’s six months, a year, or more from now, it won’t be any time soon.
