You have to use the Gunfighter Wild Card to get the most out of the Goblin. It lets you equip eight attachments instead of the usual five. All of these parts work together to make the gun as optimal as possible.
All eight attachments work together to make the Gobilin Mk2 a more optimal gun to use. Ninja helps reduce the sound of your footsteps, which is of great help with the Goblin, because its range is not as great as other ARs. This way, you can get closer to your optimal range without being heard. Working in tandem, the Tracker perk lets you see enemy footprints, so you can stalk your prey before pouncing. Cold-Blooded makes it more difficult for enemies to track your position. However, its main use is to complete the trifecta and get the Recon specialty.

Then, you can self-revive after managing to kill the enemy, or your teammates can help pick you back up. For your secondary, pick the Grekhova for some much-needed burst-fire potential.
Best alternatives to Goblin Mk2
As stated, the Goblin Mk2 is not in the best state out of the box. The best build for the gun helps it a lot, but you might prefer other fully-automatic assault rifles or other, better weapons. Even the default XM4 could fit better into your playstyle. On the other hand, the AS VAL has amazing stats and is easily better than the Goblin. If you still want to play up close, consider a weapon like the Marine SP shotgun or the Tanto .22 SMG.
