Trying to enter the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3? With loads of quests and an elevator straight into the game’s second act, the Underdark is an important location. Players have found multiple ways to enter its murky depths and not all of them are straightforward.

The Underdark is a host to interesting challenges like the Baldur’s Gate 3 Arcane Tower. It also lets you forge sweet weapons with the help of Baldur’s Gate 3 Sussur Bark.

There are multiple ways to reach the Underdark. This lets you progress across the Baldur’s Gate 3 Acts. Watch out, some of them are perilous. Here are all the Baldur’s Gate 3 Underdark entrances.

All Baldur’s Gate 3 Underdark entrances

You can reach the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3 via the Whispering Depths, the Defiled Temple, the Zhentarim Hideout, and the Riverside Teahouse. Each of these entrances has their own challenges to get through. And while you only need to enter through one of them, it’s worth checking the other locations out for quests and sweet loot. Here’s a detailed explanation covering all the ways to reach all Baldur’s Gate 3 Underdark entrances.

Whispering Depths Underdark Entrance in BG3

The first Underdark entrance in Baldur’s Gate 3 can be found in the Whispering Depths. This location is beneath the Blighted Village to the west of the Silvanus Grove location. It’s an important part of the Baldur’s Gate 3 Necromancy of Thay quest. You’ll find this entrance near the Blighted Village waypoint. Once you enter via the well in the center of the village, expect Phase Spiders and cobwebs to impede your path.

Reach the main spider nest and you’ll spot a giant hole around which the Phase Spider Matriarch patrols. You’ll also find the BG3 Dark Amethyst here, essential to open the Necromancy of Thay. Here, cast the Feather Fall spell and jump into the pit to reach the Underdark from the Whispering Depths dungeon. Expect Minotaurs to fight you once you land.

Defiled Temple Underdark Entrance in BG3

The second Underdark entrance is in the Defiled Temple. You can enter this area via the west side of the Shattered Sanctum in the Goblin Camp. This location is just upwards of the Blighted Village. You can either convince the goblins you’re a friend or clear them out. Remember that fighting the goblins in the Blighted Village does not necessarily make you a threat here.

Once you get into the Shattered Sanctum, make your way to Priestess Gut. You’ll find a key to Priestess Gut’s private room here. Sneak past or fight her ogre bodyguard, you can solve the Baldur’s Gate 3 Defiled Temple puzzle. A Perception check will let you sidestep this stone puzzle. Solving the puzzle opens a doorway to the BG3 Selunite Outpost in the Underdark.

Zhentarim Hideout Underdark Entrance in BG3

This might not be your first choice while entering the Underdark but it’s worth the effort. The Zhentarim Hideout can be accessed via Waukeen’s Rest on the Risen Road. You can find the Risen Road to the north of the Blighted Village. The Detect Thoughts spell will come in handy here. Reach Waukeen’s Rest and head to the left instead of helping the soldiers trying to enter a burning building. Here, move the crates blocking a small building and go inside.

You’ll meet Salazon here with a fireball and explosive barrels. Using Detect Thoughts will give you the password needed to head into the basement. Here, you’ll find a secret stairway behind the wardrobe. This takes you to the Zhentarim Hideout. Instead, you can also save the Zhentarim caravan from gnolls on the northeast side of the Risen Road. Remember to approach the gnoll warlord from behind instead of via the cave where the caravaneers are. I did the latter and faced a tough boss fight at a disadvantage. Saving the caravan nets you easy access to the Zhentarim Hideout.

You can either fight these black market traders or convince Zarys via Persuasion, Detect Thoughts, or Intimidation. This also disarms the traps. Head to the northwest of the cave and you’ll find some wolves hanging out ahead of an illusory wall. Beyond the wall is an elevator whose winch can be fixed with the lockpick ability. This takes you to the BG3 Underdark and grants an inspiration point to the Guild Artisan background.

Riverside Teahouse Underdark Entrance in BG3

Baldur's Gate 3 Underdark: An image of the party members sneaking behind the fireplace in the Riverside Teahouse.

This final entrance to the Underdark is a long road. It’s easy to miss as you work on the Baldur’s Gate 3 Save Mayrina questline. Once you’re in the Riverside Teahouse, sneak through the illusory wall behind the fireplace to enter the Overgrown Tunnel. While you can get a Whispering Mask in the next room and cast Protection from Good and Evil, it’s too much of a hassle. Just bypass the Gnarled Door and walk in.

It’s easier to beat the hag’s past victims non-lethally without it, especially since they constantly make saving throws to resist Auntie Ethel. Once you sneak past or deal with them, jump through the waterfall. Climb down the ladder and head north instead of going down again. You’ll find a wooden wall with a face that you can jump to. Cross the illusory wall here and you’ll spot a secret room with a circle of mushrooms. Activate this to teleport your party to the Underdark in BG3. There’s another illusory wall after Auntie Ethel’s portal but it’s easy to cross.

Reaching the Underdark is just the beginning. There are plenty of things that demand your attention outside of enemy Hook Horrors.
