Where to find the Zhentarim Hideout in Baldur’s Gate 3

The Zhentarim Hideout can be found in the northwestern corner of the Act One map. This is to the north of the Mountain Pass entrance and northwest of Waukeen’s Rest.

After going through Waukeen’s Rest, you will find a small storage building with crates blocking the entrance. Avoid entering this building if you do not have the Detect Thoughts spell or if you haven’t spoken to Rugan yet.

How to get into the Zhentarim Hideout in Baldur’s Gate 3

To access the Zhentarim Hideout, also known as the Zhentarim Basement, you will need to speak to Rugan as part of the Missing Shipment quest that involves the Iron Flask. Rugan and his partner Olly can be found in a cave along Risen Road to the west of Waukeen’s Rest.

After helping Rugan and his ally with the Gnolls, speak with Rugan and he will give you the password to the Zhentarim Hideout. He will also reveal its location. From here, go to the Zhentarim Hideout. When you enter, you will be stopped by Salazon who will request the password.

Here, you can tell Salazon the correct password if you know it or you can use the Detect Thoughts spell to figure it out. Speaking the password will grant you access to the basement. From here, go through the house and locate the wooden hatch.

You will now enter a second room. Interact with the wardrobe in the corner to reveal the hidden stairs leading to the hideout. You will get stopped again. Tell Zarys about what happened and they will let you pass. In the event you used Detect Thoughts, you may need to pass another persuasion check or two.

Note that you can also access this area without the password but it will require you to lockpick the entrance and will most likely lead to combat.

There are multiple bonuses to unlocking the Zhentarim Hideout in Baldur’s Gate 3. For instance, you get access to trader Brem. He is a trader with some great wares such as clothing dyes and gear. You can also purchase Oskar’s freedom from Brem to gain access to the artist’s quest later in the game.

In the back of the hideout, you can pass a perception check to discover a false wall with an elevator to the Underdark. The wall is near a wolf and is hard to miss. There is a guard named Karad whose inventory you can pickpocket to get the key to use the elevator.
