Atomfall drops players into an alternate reality Lake District. The idyllic pastoral landscapes are intact, but draped in a radioactive coat of fallout courtesy of a nuclear disaster, which incidentally did happen in the real world, the 1957 Windscale fire, but re-imagined into something far, far worse. Throw in survival mechanics, mutants, a rogue cult, and, we imagine, heaps of British references and humour, and what we get is very promising, especially with Sniper Elite developer Rebellion at the helm, which makes us wonder if Atomfall is heading to Nintendo’s hybrid console?
The short answer is a no, Atomfall isn’t releasing on the Switch. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the details around Atomfall not coming to Switch at launch or even in the future.
Is Atomfall releasing on Nintendo Switch?
No, unfortunately, Atomfall on Nintendo Switch isn’t happening. Courtesy of a handy FAQ over on the official Atomfall website, we have it written in black and white that there are currently no plans to release Atomfall on Nintendo Switch. It makes sense given that Nintendo’s console is getting on a bit and it’s hardware is veering towards the pretty ancient by modern next-gen standards.
Atomfall, while not a big budget AAA from the likes of Ubisoft or Activision, still has some meaty demands that the Switch simply can’t handle, unless you’d be happy with single digit frame rates and heavily downgraded graphics. As such, it’s clear that Rebellion made the decision to skip the console to safeguard the player experience.
Looking at Rebellion’s back catalogue, the last game to make its way onto Switch was Sniper Elite 4, way back in 2017. Every game since has side-stepped the console, so it’s not much of a surprise to see Atomfall not on Switch.
Now, with the Nintendo Switch 2 set for release late in 2025, we could conceivably see a Switch 2 version in the future. Though, that will depend on Atomfall selling like hot cakes to make the investment worthwhile from Rebellion’s perspective. The new hardware and presumably significantly better performance potential is likely to be more suited to running Atomfall. This is guesswork at this point and 100% within the realm of speculation so take it all with a good ol’ dose of salt. There’s no been no official confirmation or word on the matter.
If you do want to play or even pre-order Atomfall, it’s available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, GeForce NOW, and Game Pass, so there’s no shortage of options.
