As part of The Golden Teppo quest line you’ll take on the Searching Sakai quest, which involves a lot of busywork across the town. One of the first tasks is to talk to a pair of gunsmiths. During the conversation you’re given the choice to lie about knowing Imai Sokyu‘s son or daughter.

It’s presented as quite a pivotal choice, but it has very little bearing on how the rest of the quest plays out. In this guide, we’ll explain what is the outcome of both the Sokyu’s son and Sokyu’s daughter dialogue options in the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Searching Sakai quest.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Sokyu's son or daughter: gunsmiths dialogue options.
All three choices have the same outcome. Captured by VideoGamer

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Sokyu son or daughter outcomes

You’ll have three responses to choose from during the conversation when asked who is your contact at house Imai. Here’s what happens for each of them:

  • I know Imai Sokyu’s son – Yakichi will want to hand over the contracts, but Asajiro will refuse, demanding 500 Mon instead.
  • I know Imai Sokyu’ daughter – Asajiro will correctly point out that you’re spewing nonsense because Imai Sokyu only has a son and no daughter.
  • That’s none of your business – Yakichi will want to hand over the contracts, but Asajiro will refuse, demanding 500 Mon instead.

Regardless of which of the three you choose, you’ll still need to chase Asajiro down through the streets of Sakai to get the contract. This happens regardless of whether you agree to pay the 500 Mon or select ‘You’re wasting your time’ or ‘I don’t have enough’ in the next dialogue choice. All in all, it’s a bit of a nothing choice as the quest progresses in the same way regardless.

As for what is the ‘right’ answer, it’s really up to you. But, it’s worth noting that if you play in Canon Mode, Naoe automatically picks ‘My name is not important’ in the dialogue choice at the start of the conversation, suggesting anonymity is what the developers intended. However, even going down this route results in Naoe chasing down Asajiro for the counterfeit contracts.
