Located in the far north of the Izumi Settsu in the Yamata Plains sub-region, you’ll come to the Makino Kurumazuka Kofun. It’s similar to the other ones you’ve found so far in that you need to navigate a maze-like set of caves to reach a treasure. Except that this one’s entrance is barred-off by a wall of rocks.
Try as you might to find an alternative way in, there simply isn’t one, making getting access a tad tricky. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to open and navigate the Makino Kurumazuka Kofun in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

How to destroy the Makino Kurumazuka Kofun rock wall
To destroy the rock wall at the entrance to the Makino Kurumazuka Kofun, you’ll need to progress the story far enough that you unlock Yasuke and can freely swap between the two protagonists. Once you’ve reached that point, swap to Yasuke and head back to the Kofun.
Near the stairs leading down to the entrance, you’ll spot several red explosive jars. Pick one up, head down the stairs, and drop it at the foot of the rock wall. Step back up the stairs to get out of harm’s way, pull out Yasuke’s bow, and shoot the jar. It will then explode, clearing the rock wall, allowing you to venture into the Kofun to find and loot the chest.

How to solve the Makino Kurumazuka Kofun puzzle and get the chest
To find the chest, continue down the stairs until you come to a first chamber with a small chest. Loot it, then head down the corridor on the right to find a large movable crate. Push it forward then take a right and follow the path into another chamber. Pull the crate back, go through, and follow the path down, through the water, and up the stairs into another chamber.
Grab one of the explosive jars on the left and place it near the breakable wall on the right. Shoot the jar to clear the rocks. Pick up the second jar and head back into the chamber you were in previously. Climb up the stairs, place the jar near the breakable wall, and shoot it to clear the path.

Head down, go left to loot a small chest, then head right to reach another chamber with water. Swim through the water (there’s a chest underwater as well) to reach the doorway on the other side. Follow the path until you spot a stack of crates on the right. Break through them, grab a jar, and throw it onto the platform above the water. Shoot it to break the rock wall ahead.
Hop across and go through the crawl space on the left. You’ll reach a pit. You can try and walk across using the rope but it will break. Instead, hop down and go through the doorway on the right and move the crate to reveal a small chest. Move the crate out into the pit area, then position it near the ledge on the right and climb up.
Press on and you’ll come to yet another chamber with movable crates and a breakable wall on a ledge at the back. Pull the crate blocking the path on the left, go through and follow the path round until you come to a room with two crates and an explosive jar. Move the crates to the right and go through back into the main chamber.
From here, you need to move the crates so they form a series of steps going to the breakable wall as shown in the image above. Once that’s done, grab the explosive jar, walk across the crates and ledge, then throw the jar across to the breakable wall and shoot it. The jar has a tendency to slip off the ledge so shoot it as soon as you’ve thrown it up to destroy the wall.
Jump across then follow the path to find the Kofun chest, which contains the Extend clear Mind Legendary Engraving and Blush of the Earth Legendary Bow, one of the best weapons you can get early on.
