Assassin’s Creed Mirage notoriety determines how hostile guards will act towards Basim in the non-restricted areas of Baghdad. It’s similar to police star levels in games like GTA and Cyberpunk 2.0 in that it’s a measure of your criminality, except that the gauge only increases when you’re spotted committing a transgression.

We’ll walk you through everything you need to know about notoriety in Assassin’s Creed Mirage and how to lower it. Assassin's Creed Mirage - notoriety explained and how to lower notoriety

Notoriety explained

Notoriety in Assassin’s Creed Mirage is made up three tiers or levels, represented by a gauge bar in the bottom right of your screen that fills up every time you commit illegal actions (stealing, pickpocketing, and killing) in front of the locals or the guards themselves. Here’s what to expect at each level, with the response from guards intensifying as your notoriety increases:

  • Level 1 – there’s a chance for civilians to recognise Basim and summon guards. Wanted posters start appearing on walls around Baghdad. The level is represented by an exclamation mark inside an eye on the notoriety gauge.
  • Level 2 – guards are more likely to detect Basim and archers start patrolling rooftops. Civilians have a higher chance of recognizing Basim and reporting him to guards. Even more wanted posters appear around Baghdad. The level is represented by a bow and arrow on the notoriety gauge.
  • Level 3 – the elite Shakiriyya guard is summoned to hunt Basim down. Guards are far more likely to detect Basim. Civilians also crowd around posters and they are highly likely to recognise Basim and call guards. The level is represented by two crossed swords on the notoriety gauge.

How to lower notoriety in Assassin’s Creed Mirage

There are two ways to lower notoriety in Assassin’s Creed Mirage:

  • Tear down wanted posters around Baghdad
  • Bribe a Munadi town crier with a Power Token

Once you hit level 1 notoriety in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, wanted posters will start popping up on walls around Baghdad. Tear this down without being spotted by guards to lower your notoriety. Every poster reduces your notoriety by one level. Posters spawn at ground level only, especially around busy intersections. Use your Eagle Vision to track them down easily, looking out for a glowing yellow landscaped rectangle.

Alternatively, you can lower your notoriety by bribing Mundai, or town criers, around Baghdad with a Power Token. Munadi appear on your map as an icon of a torn wanted poster. You can get Power Tokens by completing mercenary contracts, which you can pick up at any of the three bureaus across Baghdad. Each contract rewards you with two tokens with two extra given if you complete the Contractor Request objective. You also have a chance of stealing Power Tokens when pickpocketing civilians and guards around Baghdad, though this is a less reliable method.
