Alan Wake 2 – how to get the screwdriver

The Alan Wake 2 screwdriver is a solid addition to Saga’s toolkit, especially given the glut of padlocks, containers, and locked doors and gates around Bright Falls, Watery, and beyond. While you can skip many of these, once you hit Return 3 Local Girl, the screwdriver is a must-have to get into the gift shop to progress Saga’s mission and reach the Watery lighthouse trailer park. 

We’ll walk you through how to get the screwdriver in Alan Wake 2. Once you’ve got the screwdriver, check out the Alan Wake 2 Coffee World gift shop safe code solution, which you’ll need to get Saga’s trailer keys.

Alan Wake 2 screwdriver location

The Alan Wake 2 screwdriver is located on a control box in the Percolator ride in Coffee World. You can only pick up the screwdriver once you’ve started the Return 3 Local Girl mission, when Saga explores Watery.

You’ll reach the park if you follow the mission objective, but the general gist is you need to talk to the Koskelas near the flooded bridge in the west of the town to unlock an alternative route. Follow the path up and round through the forest and hills to reach the park. Watch out for the Taken as you explore the woods.

In Coffee World, head to the gift shop where you’ll find the door locked along with a note that explains that the screwdriver was last used to fix the Percolator ride. March on over to the Percolator, which is in the east of the park (check the image above for the exact location). 

Once you enter the ride, it will spring to life and you’ll need to fight off two Taken enemies. One is perched on top of the ride, while the other is on foot and walks around the perimeter of the ride to reach Saga. 

Once they are dealt with, you’ll find the screwdriver on a control panel at the back of the ride. Picking it up also unlocks the Finding a Way achievement. Once you’ve wrapped up the Local Girl mission in Watery, you can now backtrack to Cauldron Lake and Bright Falls to get into all the locked gates and containers there using the screwdriver.
