One of the new submachine guns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the FSS Hurricane, and it’s basically an SMG version of the M4 assault rifle because it closely resembles the M4 from previous iterations of COD and is part of the M4 weapon platform. The bullets on the gun are actually fed into the top of the rail, which gives it its unique, almost naked-looking appearance when compared to other traditional guns.

The FSS Hurricane is one of the few ARs within Modern Warfare 2. With this said, the weapon has decent base damage, and all around good stats, so you won’t have to add many attachments in order to make this weapon powerful.

The FSS Hurricane in Modern Warfare 2 differs from other SMGs due to its inherent stealth features. The FSS Hurricane has subsonic ammunition that keeps the enemy team from seeing kill skulls. This capacity to conceal oneself limits the access that enemies have to crucial information, which is an appealing property for a weapon that excels at obtaining the upper hand and delivering short bursts of lethal fire.

Even though the FSS Hurricane is a fantastic choice, you’ll soon come to realize that it doesn’t reach its true potential until you set it up with attachments. Even after you’ve done that, you still need to pair it with a decent loadout, to make sure you are making the most of this extremely effective SMG.

FSS Hurricane Overview

The FSS Hurricane is a versatile SMG, and this fully automatic gun is the best weapon for shredding opponents in close-range gunfights in the MW2 Open Beta. With its aggressive design and mild recoil, the FSS Hurricane is a fully automatic submachine gun that may help you defeat enemies on the battlefield without needing to reload. To kill an opponent in close combat without armor, you only need four shots, and if you’re good, you only need three if you can hit the target in the head.

Design

The FSS Hurricane homes inspiration from the real-life AR-57, designed by AR57 LLC and manufactured by AR57 of Kent, Washington. Unfortunately, the company is now defunct. The AR-57 was either available as a receiver modification for the base AR-15( something the Weapons Platform System for Modern Warfare 2 took inspiration from) or as a standalone complete rifle. The AR-57 fired 5.7x28mm ammunition rounds from standard FN P90 magazines.

Weapons Platform

Something new added to the forefront of the Gunsmith in the weapons tab is the Weapons Platform which allows users access to a collection of five weapons that can share a full pool of attachments. Weapons Platforms allow users to streamline progression and attachment unlocking in a user-friendly manner, enabling you to switch between multiple playstyles effortlessly using the select roster of weapons available on a Platform.

You can pretty much revamp an armament in Gunsmith that is part of the larger Weapons Platform. This can easily be accomplished by swapping out receivers. Editing out the receiver will switch the weapon’s category, transforming it into an entirely different weapon.

M4 Weapons Platform

The FSS Hurricane belongs to the M4 Weapons Platform manufactured by Tempus Armament. The M4 is the first weapon unlocked in the M4 Platform in Modern Warfare 2, shown within the in-game Gunsmith as the first weapon receiver.

The M4 Platform is manufactured by Tempus Armament, which is a Weapons Platform Progression Map. By leveling up each receiver, you will unlock attachments that can be used across all weapons within the platform. The M4 AR and four other weapons—the M16, the 556 Icarus LMG, the FTAC Recon Battle Rifle, and the FSS Hurricane SMG—can be unlocked in the COD: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta. As implied by their titles, upgrading the M4 Receiver will turn the M4 Platform into an entirely new weapon with unique features

In Modern Warfare 2, the Hurricane is one of the receiver options for the overall M4 platform within the Gunsmith system. Players will recognize the M4 platform as one of the more iconic weapons in the game, but the FSS has a unique set of stats and looks. It has tons of controllable damage, a high fire rate, and decent damage.

The FSS Hurricane is the SMG variant of the M4 and is a decent choice for players who prefer fast-paced combat over slow precision.

FSS Hurricane Stats

In the MW2 Open Beta, the FSS Hurricane, a robust SMG with fully automatic fire, is the finest weapon for taking out players at close range. Let’s take a closer look at its stats:-

Damage

The FSS Hurricane also has low penetration power, meaning that the FSS Hurricane loses a great portion of its already small damage when shooting through all but the lightest of obstacles.

Fire Rate

The SMG has a fast fire rate, which is its best commodity in close-range fights. The faster you fire, the quicker you can shred through an enemy’s HP. And the weapon can be made even stronger by equipping it with the right attachments in the gunsmith.

Accuracy

The FSS Hurricane has among the highest SMG accuracy. Although some recoil will build up due to the FSS Hurricane’s quick rate of fire, the weapon is simple to rest upon a target because of its minimal recoil per shot and fast center speed.

Recoil Control

The FSS Hurricane has an erratic recoil pattern. However, the recoil can be easily managed using the proper build in-game.

The FSS Hurricane could see changes and improvements between the second beta weekend and the launch.

Range

Close range

The SMG has a vicious fire rate, making it a powerful weapon for close-range gunfights. The weapon can easily dispatch enemies at close range. The SMG has a fast fire rate, which is its best commodity in close-range fights.

Long range

It is incredibly simple to dominate from a distance because of the lack of recoil and remarkable stability. The FSS Hurricane performs significantly better at a distance.

Mobility

The Hurricane “sacrifices range and stopping power for increased ammo capacity and enhanced stability,” according to its in-game description. It boasts strong mobility and solid DPS.

Handling

The FSS Hurricane has good handling characteristics for an SMG. The FSS Hurricane allows users to move at 100% of the base movement speed and strafe at 80% of the base speed.

FSS Hurricane Blueprints

Blueprints allow users to access weapons earlier in their level progression and weapons platform progression trees, enabling players to access powerful weaponry earlier in the game. These come pre-built with custom attachments and weapon skins for players to enjoy unique weapon builds and experiences. Blueprints can be viewed in the armory section of the weapons tab. Currently; no blueprints are available for the FSS Hurricane and will be listed once the game officially launches

Unlocking the FSS Hurricane in Modern Warfare 2

The FSS Hurricane in Modern Warfare 2 unlocks quite fast. All you have to do is define your weapon setup in the Create Class menu. You unlock the option to do this from rank 4, i.e., after a few games in the quick search. Once you’ve done that, do the following:

  • Select the M4 assault rifle and level it to level 13 to unlock the FTAC Recon.
  • Select the FTAC Recon battle rifle and level it to level 16 to unlock the FSS Hurricane.
  • Now select the FSS Hurricane Receiver in the Gunsmith.

Bugs

Some players have reported that the FSS Hurricane appears to be unlocked despite completing the M4 level progression tree. At max level, users of the game have reported that except for all the weapons on the M4 Weapons Platform, the FSS Hurricane is still locked.

This can easily be fixed by closing the game via the quit option in the main menu and then relaunching the game.

Given that the game was still in its open beta stage, this may be written off as a bug. Infinity Ward will likely patch the game and bugs at some point after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is officially released on October 28, 2022, with a potential Day One Patch.

Attachments

Specific attachments are all sharable within the M4 platform for all receivers so players won’t have to worry about re-unlocking these attachments for each individual weapon within a Platform. But you’ll have to unlock attachments for the different Weapons Platforms individually.

But Universal attachments consisting of Optics, Lasers, Muzzles, Barrels, and Ammunition can be used across all weapons. Once universal attachments are unlocked in conjunction with any Weapon’s Platform progression, they can be used across any weapon in the game. This option was left out during the Open Beta but will be available on Launch Day for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

The inner M4 can be spotted with its sleek and sturdy body combined with a lovely iron sight, meaning your options for optimizing the weapon kind of speak for themselves. There’s no need for any compensating optics, lasers, ammo, or magazines, allowing you to get straight into business with the improvements.

You’ll want to hone in on the FSS Hurricane’s recoil first, through the barrel and muzzle options, although you won’t want to sacrifice too much speed. ADS and Sprint to Fire times will be gained through the stock, making this best FSS Hurricane Modern Warfare 2 class a perfect match of speed and precision-a Captain Price special.

Alternatives

Other alternatives to the FSS Hurricane are the MP5 and Kastov74u. However, there are other assault rifles in the game, but they are currently unavailable. So, the best alternative for this weapon can be determined when the game gets a full release.
