XDefiant is Ubisoft’s latest free-to-play ‘Call of Duty beater‘ and has so far been a huge hit with players. Building upon decades of FPS experience from the likes of Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six, Ubisoft has managed to make a smash hit that could become one of the key industry leaders when it comes to esports FPS titles.

U/Hot_Riddler has taken to Reddit to praise the game as a whole, but also discuss the “incessant bunny hopping” that players do when engaging in gun fights saying “You’re not gonna lose players by encouraging boots on the ground, you WILL lose players by doing nothing to tame this awful, goofy and cheesy style of play, especially many of the casuals.”

It is surprising that Ubisoft chose to make the gameplay faster in nature and similar to Call of Duty as many of its games, especially in the Tom Clancy series that XDefiant was originally part of, are much slower-paced. Games such as Ghost Recon have incredibly slow movement and players are killed very quickly in the games.

Although bunny hopping is a hated mechanic, it is part of many FPS games now and anyone coming over from the likes of Call of Duty will be used to it by now. It will be interesting to see whether Ubisoft does anything to nerf this so as not to turn away players.
