Activision has revealed that Modern Warfare 2 sales were “significantly higher” this year compared to CoD Vanguard’s initial performance. Most players were predictably surprised upon learning of this fact as the latest series installment has been plagued with a seemingly endless amount of bugs and issues since being launched in 2022.

Even though fans continue to experience a variety of in-game problems, such as the broken report system and the recent scoreboard bug, it seems that those loyal to Activision’s FPS creation remain adamant on purchasing the game despite its numerous flaws. Sadly, this unwanted trend could possibly remain the case moving forward since the CoD series doesn’t actually have a direct competitor that gamers could move over to.

Based on the information provided through a Twitter post by well-known CoD news aggregator CharlieIntel, in-game sales similarly “grew year-over-year.” This means that the microtransactions available within, such as the various skins, bundles, and battle pass offerings continue to do well regardless of what the community has been experiencing since the beginning.

Those that want to see drastic changes being made to Modern Warfare 2 have reacted negatively to this news as it means that the developers will continue to neglect important aspects of the game that affect player experience. One particular user, however, has pointed out that it seems as if “a vast majority” of the player base is enjoying the game and that “they’re just not online talking about it.”

Alas, it seems that MW2 is set to continue this positive sales run as it remains one of the most played games on all platforms. The only thing that could stop it now is the arrival of the new 2023 CoD installment later on in the year, which could possibly do even better based on how things stand with the Activision series.
