Alix Wilton Regan is the new voice actor for Lara Croft in Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider Catalyst. Speaking to The Gamer in a two-part interview that will be fully uploaded on December 24, Regan teases that her portrayal is a “very, very cool, original reimagining of Lara Croft”.

Legacy of Atlantis is coming out in 2026, and Crystal Dynamics has stressed that it’s a reimagining of Lara Croft’s 1996 debut rather than a remake.

The 1996 classic was developed by Core Design, a British studio that shut down in 2006. Meanwhile, Legacy of Atlantis is co-developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog. Crystal Dynamics has been making Tomb Raider games since the release of Legend in 2006, whereas Flying Wild Hog is a Polish developer known for the Shadow Warrior trilogy and Evil West games.

Paul Douglas, one of the co-creators of Tomb Raider, shared conflicting thoughts about Legacy of Atlantis, saying on Bluesky, “Personally, I’d prefer exploring new lost worlds than another remake/remaster/reimagining of something we crafted under intense duress in the 90’s”. However, in another post, Paul says Legacy of Atlantis is “visually stunning” and “something [Core Design] only dreamed of 30 years ago”.

Tomb Raider Anniversary was a remake of Lara Croft’s first game by Crystal Dynamics, released in 2007. Responding to Douglas’ concerns about yet another remake/reimagining of the first game, Regan teases, “Get back to me in a year’s time with your comments”.

Crystal Dynamics hasn’t shared how Legacy of Atlantis is a reimagining of Tomb Raider’s debut other than through advancements in technology, such as the power of Unreal Engine 5. However, leaks suggest Legacy of Atlantis debuts the Society of Raiders, which is reportedly a group of explorers who become rivals in Tomb Raider Catalyst.
