Though we’ve known about story-driven sci-fi action-RPG Exodus for a few years now, the marketing machine is churning into gear with a release penciled in for the not-too-distant future. Led by some of the minds behind fan-favorites like Mass Effect, Baldur’s Gate, and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), Exodus is shaping up to be an epic interstellar adventure stacked with meaningful role-playing and tense, thrilling action.
Instead of just another bog-standard RPG inspired by Mass Effect set in the far future, Exodus is toying with time itself as its distinguishing feature. Time churns forward at a different pace when faster-than-light travel and relativity are involved. Here’s everything you need to know about Archetype Entertainment’s upcoming sci-fi action-RPG, Exodus.
Exodus expected release window

As confirmed in a sleek new trailer released during The Game Awards 2025, Exodus is currently pencilled in for release in early 2027. It’s not quite a firm release date, but it offers a bit more to sink our teeth into than a vague “coming soon”. Speaking speculatively, “early 2027” likely refers to Q1 2027, positioning Exodus for a release anytime between January and March, though we could also see the game hit store shelves a little later in the year.
Exodus gameplay and story predictions

Exodus is a sci-fi, story-driven action-adventure RPG, blending branching narratives, impactful choices, and varied story paths with action combat, planetary exploration and traversal, and interstellar travel, all set against the backdrop of time dilation.
It’s played in third-person and is designed as a single-player experience. The game will revolve around fighting intelligent Awakened creatures and bioengineered Celestial Changelings, but also rival human offshoots known as Dynasties.
Exodus is set 40,000 years in the future in the Omega Centauri Cluster. Years before, Earth suffered environmental collapse, promoting a mass exodus to find new habitable worlds in Omega Centauri. These early colonisers morph into a human-descendant species known as the Celestials, equipped with powerful technology, including interstellar travel.
Among the exodus is a small fleet that gets lost in space, only to emerge in Omega Centauri, millennia later. They are comprised of Travellers, brave explorers out to uncover Celestial tech known as Remnants that offer untold power and a chance at survival.
Travellers also need to juggle the time-morphing effects of time dilation caused by interstellar travel through Celestial Gates. As explained by Archetype on the Exodus website, “We use Time Dilation as a catalyst impacting the choices you make in-game that sets in motion events affecting your relationships with your loved ones, and your entire civilization, for generations…The sacrifices you make to protect your loved ones create unpredictable consequences that change your world – reshaping the future. Returning home, you confront the consequences of your choices. In Exodus, the outcome of those choices manifests at a massive level, compounding over generations.”
Exodus trailers
Developer Archetype Entertainment has released a slew of official trailers, cinematic story deep dives, dev diaries, Q&As, and even episodic live play of a tabletop RPG based on Exodus called Star Heist: An Exodus Story. You can watch all of these on the game’s official YouTube channel.
As for official trailers, there are three so far. The first was broadcast at The Game Awards 2023 and acts as Exodus’ big reveal. Pre-rendered and CGI-heavy, it offers a bit of expositionary sauce, setting the scene for the conflict with the Celestials, humanity’s greatest enemy. We also get a first peek at the protagonists of Exodus, known as the Travellers. The trailer concludes with a first quick look at combat as Travellers explore alien worlds and battle bioengineered robots.
The second trailer, released in December 2024, offers the first meaningful look at Exodus gameplay. We see travellers explore whirring alien structures, combat different permutations of mobile robotic enemies, use arcane Celestial tech, traverse environments using a grappling hook, and fight a towering armored bear.
Lastly, we have a trailer released at The Game Awards 2025, dubbed The Rise of Jun Aslan. It reveals that we’ll be playing as Jun Aslan, a lowly salvager turned humanity’s last hope against the Celestials. The trailer blends cinematics with polished gameplay sequences to give us the most coherent look at Exodus’ story, setting, and characters to date.
Exodus platforms

In a trailer released at The Game Awards 2023, developer Archetype Entertainment revealed that the game is expected to launch on the usual trifecta of platforms: PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
An expected release in early 2027 means Exodus is unlikely to release late enough for a launch on next-gen consoles. Still, we could potentially see it carried over to Sony and Xbox’s next machines at a later date if the game does well critically and commercially.
There’s been no mention of a Nintendo Switch 2 version so far, and, from what we’ve seen so far, the graphical and hardware demands may be beyond Nintendo’s plucky little console, so it’s unlikely we’ll see it land there.
