“Super Earth leaders are actually in cahoots with the Automatons and Terminids” Helldivers 2 players share their own theories

The Galactic War in Helldivers 2 is the basis for the story and lore of the game. Super Earth is at war with the Automatons and Terminids, with The Illuminate set to join the war in the future. As the war rages on, the Helldivers 2 community shares their own theories on the lore of the game. 

U/Own-Concentrate2477 took to Reddit to ask the community about theories they have about Helldivers 2, with them giving their own theory “that the “High priority citizens” are just people that paid to be saved.” This is likely to be true, as in the real world, many elite and high-priority people have plans in place in the event of a doomsday scenario. 

U/thewanderingway shared a theory as to why the crew is impersonal when it comes to the Helldivers 2 players, and that is because you are just another faceless soldier who likely won’t make it back from the mission so there is little point in getting to know you. “The crew of Super Destroyers is impersonal and to the point, and sometimes even curt with Helldivers because they know that they will never see that Helldiver again. This is also why we don’t ever see Eagle-One in person. She recuses herself to her side of the ship so that she never gets close to the Helldivers.”

U/EliTheFarmer also theorized that they “had the wild thought that Eagle 1 has either died long ago or is a made-up character for morale purposes. I imagine it’s a General Brasch situation where they just play audio recordings of her through the comms and there are regular-joe pilots behind the sticks of Eagles.”

Finally, U/Tanuk-E- believes that “Super Earth leaders are actually in cahoots with Bugs and Bots just to fuel the war economy and line their pockets.”

We will likely never know whether any of these theories are true, although perhaps the final one could come to light one day. But, Helldivers 2 is a game full of lore and the developers have a lot of backstory mapped out so perhaps things will be revealed as the Galactic War progresses. But for now, we can only focus on the next Major Order event and the upcoming Escalation of Freedom update, which will add new missions, enemies, planets, and more to the game.
