Helldivers 2 has come under a lot of fire in recent days following an announcement by Sony that will force all players to connect a PSN account to the Steam version of the game in order to keep playing. While this doesn’t sound like a major issue, PlayStation Network services are only available in 69 of the 190+ countries in the world, meaning that many players will be cut off from playing the game. Some players also don’t want to create an account due to Sony’s history of data breaches.

At the time of writing, Helldivers 2 has gone from a ‘Very Positive’ score down to a rating of ‘Mostly Negative’. This is due to the overwhelming amount of negative reviews left on the Helldivers 2 store page. The Helldivers 2 Steamdb page reports that on Friday, May 3rd, there were over 62,000 negative reviews left in response to the PSN announcement, with a further 81,000 on May 4th. Negatively reviewing a game is nothing new when a developer or publisher does something the community dislikes, this happened recently when Capcom implemented new DRM software to its older games.

While this is just players using it as a way of complaining, it can have real effects on the popularity of the as PC players often look to the user review score on Steam as an indication of quality. If a new player clicks on Helldivers 2 for the first time and sees a ‘Mostly Negative’ rating, it could lead to them dismissing it as a bad game, harming the sales of the game.

The Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt responded to the review bombing in a post on X saying “Ouch, right in the review score Well, I guess it’s warranted. Sorry everyone for how this all transpired. I hope we will make it up and regain the trust by providing a continued great game experience.” With PSN only being available in approximately 70 countries, this could affect many players across the world in countries such as the Philipines, so hopefully Arrowhead Game Studios and Sony can figure this out in a way that will satisfy players.

Despite all that has transpired in the past couple of days, there is still Liber-tea that needs serving, as the Terminids are building a super colony and need taking down.
