Helldivers 2 has been under fire over the past few days due to Sony announcing that all PC players will be required to link a PSN account to keep playing the game. Unfortunately, PSN is only supported in 69 countries, leaving players in over 120 countries unable to play the game, but still able to purchase it, when this change comes into effect on May 30th. While it does look like this is going to be resolved and players won’t be affected by this change, it has understandably been a stressful couple of days to be a Helldiver.

Spitz, the Associate Community Manager for Helldivers 2, recently revealed that Arrowhead Game Studios had planned on granting players a cosmetic reward for linking their PSN account to the game. This isn’t uncommon and many games offer rewards for similar tasks such as connecting accounts. Spitz said on the official Discord server,

“AH wanted to give a cosmetic reward for account linking but I’m unsure what the status on that is currently or if it’s still planned.”

This wouldn’t be the first time that Arrowhead Game Studios has granted players a free cosmetic. Last month when players failed a Major Order, a free Cape was given to commemorate the occasion. It is unclear whether this planned cosmetic will still come to the game, it is possible that it will be granted to all players as an apology for this recent PSN controversy, but we will have to wait for an official announcement by the developers.

The good news is that Arrowhead Game Studios is working with Sony to ensure that no player in the 120+ countries that don’t have access to PSN services will be affected by this recent announcement. Sony had announced on May 3rd that “as of May 6th, all new HELLDIVERS 2 players on Steam will be required to connect their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account. Current players on Steam will start to see the mandatory login from May 30th and will be required to have linked a Steam and PlayStation Network account by June 4th.”

As of right now, it looks like the plan for mandatory PSN linking will still be in effect for players in the 69 countries where it is available though, so those who don’t want to make an account will either be forced to or can choose to not continue playing. This could change as time goes on, especially with the mass review bombing as the community expresses its frustration at this latest announcement.

With all of this controversy taking place over the past couple of days, many players have taken their eyes off the matter at hand, and that is the Terminids have created a super colony, which means they need to be served some Liber-tea.
