Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead is continually looking at feedback from the community. In addition to looking at feedback from fans, the developer is great at communicating their thoughts and current thought process in response to complaints. An example of this is the developer communicating that they are ‘looking into changes’ for a highly controversial Helldivers 2 gameplay mechanic.

There are other examples of communication between Arrowhead and fans. The developer has discussed the possibility of adding squads bigger than four players, and they have said that it’s plausible they will add melee weapons in the future. They have also said that crossovers are a possibility provided they are logical and make sense.

While all of the above are recent and still relevant examples of communication, the developer has now also responded to the continuous fan complaints about auto-climb. This has been a much complained about gameplay mechanic from day one, and the Arrowhead community manager has said there will be ‘likely some’ changes in the future.

Helldivers 2 dev ‘looking into changes’ for auto climb

Arrowhead community manager, Twinbeard, has responded to complaints about auto-climb in Helldivers 2 on the series’ official Discord channel. A user asked the community manager if Arrowhead will add an option to turn off auto-climb, and below is the response from Twinbeard:

‘We’re looking into and possibly tweaking the way auto vault works in the near future. We have several options and haven’t decided on which changes will be made if any, but likely some.’

The response doesn’t 100% guarantee that changes will be delivered, but it seems literally ‘likely’ and it’s good to hear that the developer is currently in the process of investigating changes to make.

For an explanation, auto-climb/autovault is a gameplay mechanic where you automatically climb or vault over a climbable object. While on paper it may not sound too bad, it has infamously been complained about heavily in the community.

One Reddit thread using a very humorous amount of expletives complained about dying too many times because their helldiver automatically keeps jumping on supply boxes like an uncontrollable monkey. Another Reddit thread begs Arrowhead to add a toggle for auto-climb so they can turn it off arguing that it encompasses everything bad about the old Assassin’s Creed games.

Hopefully, Arrowhead does add a toggle to turn autovault off. Again, there’s no 100% guarantee that changes will be implemented, but it’s good to know the developer is aware of the disgruntlement and will ‘likely’ deliver some sort of fix.
