Mark Zuckerberg announced that “VR is about to get even more real” with their new headset, but how much does the Meta Quest 3 weigh?

The best VR headsets tend to be light. While weight is not really an important spec in other gaming technologies, as one of the few pieces bits of wearable kit, you don’t want your VR headset experience to turn into a neck workout.

The Meta Quest 3 is set to a high-tech VR headset with ring-less controllers and full-color video passthrough. Alongside that, we know it will have the highest resolution we’ve ever seen from a Meta headset. With those kinds of specs, gamers will be hoping the weight is impressively low too. Here is everything we know so far.

How much will the Meta Quest 3 weigh?

Following the Meta Connect event, we now have both an official release date of the 10th of October, as well as an official weight for the Quest 3 headset. Weighing only 515 grams, the Quest 3 is more lightweight and streamlined than the Quest 2 due to its pancake optics and slim design, but is a similar weight.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg News got hands-on with the new headset and noted that it felt “far lighter” than the Meta Quest 2. Meta themselves also noted that the new headset would be 40% slimmer than the Quest 2. It might not be 40% lighter, but at just over 500 grams the headset weighs a similar amount to the 1.1lbs of the Quest 2.

This would make sense too as we have been seeing VR headsets getting lighter and lighter as time has gone on and the technology has progressed. With a weight of less than 1.1 pounds, we know for example that vs the PSVR 2, the Meta Quest will weigh less. However, it can’t quite go head to head with the Vive Flow which comes in at just 0.4lbs.

We’ll be keeping this page up to date with the latest information on the new Meta Quest headset. If you want to see how it’s shaping up versus some of the competition we already compared the Meta Quest 3 vs Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3 vs PSVR 2
