Forever at the forefront of technology, Apple’s latest release at the WWDC this year was the breathtaking Apple Vision Pro, its first mixed reality headset.

Defined as the company’s first “spatial computer” that “scales beyond the boundaries of traditional display”, this breakthrough design has left many eagerly anticipating a 2024 release despite its hefty $3,499 price tag.

However, with its promotion video so focused on the seamless blend of movement and augmented reality, including through Facetime and three dimensional photography features using Micro-OLED displays, you might be wondering if the Vision Pro will actually be wired or wireless.

Is the Apple Vision Pro wired or wireless?

In essence, yes the Apple Vision Pro is wireless. However, there is a little more to it than that, and the question has more depth than you might think.

Unlike some other AR devices on the market, the Vision Pro headset is a battery-less device, and therefore relies on an external battery pack which plugs in on the side of the glasses. The headset battery pack lasts for up to two hours on a full charge.

Of course, the Vision Pro can be plugged directly into the wall to give the user an extended, full day experience.

The two hour battery life aligns with that of similar devices such as the Meta Quest 2, and most likely with how long users might wear the headset per session.

As 2024 gets closer we expect Apple will give us an update on when we’ll be able to get wired into an Apple Vision Pro.

Final Word

So there you have it, the Apple headset is a mostly wireless device, but how it will shape up against other upcoming AR headsets heading onto the market is still yet to be seen.

We’ve compared what we know about the Apple headset vs the Meta Quest Pro, and we’ve also compared the headset vs Meta Quest 3. This way you can gauge if the Vision Pro holds up against these highly anticipated releases when it finally comes out next year.
