There’s a strange psychedelic glitch users are encountering in The Last of Us Part 1 PC, so can you fix it?

The Last of Us Part 1 PC launch has exposed a tonne of issues with the PC port. With any new game, there are bound to be some issues that come up, but the amount of users who encounter glitches, loading errors or stuttering is so high that the community has even been reviewing bombing the game on Steam.

One of the more, shall we say colourful, issues gamers have encountered drastically affects the graphics of the game. It was first drawn attention to us by a gamer with a post on The Last of Us Subreddit.

As you can see the effects are pretty severe. This visual style might do it for some but will clearly have a huge impact on the playability of the game, so can it be solved?

Can you fix the The Last of Us Part 1 PC psychedelic glitch?

Because we have not experienced this glitch ourselves, we cannot confirm any certain fixes for this issue. This is also partly because we do not know what is causing it. However, we have seen glitches like this in the past, and it’s possible that trying a few classic fixes will sort it out.

  • Restart your PC
  • Verify the integrity of game files
  • Wait for a patch

Restart your PC

This is an age-old, almost cliche fix, but for good reason. Restarting your computer results in the game re-loading from the start. This means that it will go through all the processes necessary and potentially allow it to avoid encountering whatever issue causes this psychedelic glitch originally.

Verify the integrity of game files

This is another classic fix, that often solves all kinds of glitches and issues in Steam games. To do this open Steam, then navigate to The Last of Us Part I > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files.

Any corrupted files will cause issues, though considering the number of problems the game is encountering as a whole, it’s possible the cause of the problem will be deeper.

Wait for a patch

The myriad issues with the PC port have been acknowledged by the game’s developer, Naughty Dog, and though they have not added this specific problem to their known issues page, they have noted ‘graphical problems’ players are encountering.

They have also stated that they are working to provide patches, which we are made available as soon as possible.

We will update this article as and when we see any of these patches making an appearance, or you can go to their Steam Support Page. We’re hoping it won’t be too long so players can start fully enjoying the game.
