Wanting to know what’s going on with Threads rate limit? We’ve got you covered right here.
Threads, released by Meta early July 2023, proved an instant hit with over 30 million sign ups in the first 24 hours. Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has since celebrated the apps success by commenting on the “10s of millions” returning users. Threads has a similar set-up to its rival social media platform, Twitter. Where Twitter has tweets and retweets, Threads has threads and reposts. The similarities are clear to see with a scrolling feed of posts that users can like, reply and re-post. Users can follow who they want on the nearly identical user interace to Twitter.
One particular area which users had initially thought was different to Twitter was the rate limit. Zuckerberg had seemingly timed his release of Threads with the controversy surrounding Musk’s decision to install a rate limit on Twitter. The backlash of the decision timed well with the release of the Threads app that didn’t have the same restrictions. Up until now that is.
Instagram CEO, Adam Mosseri announced on Threads that, as a response to spam attacks, they are going to be getting tighter on rate limits.
Let’s get straight into it
What is the Threads rate limit?
The Threads rate limits are the restrictions put in place to counter spam attacks which have “picked up” on the platform. There is currently no explanation of the limits in detail from Threads itself but based off user reports, we have been able to see what some of these restrictions are. The rate limits are restricting the amount of threads and reposts users can do in a day. Again, the numbers haven’t been made clear of how many posts can be seen or made. Twitter’s rate limit is 2,400 Tweets per day.
Users have responded to the Instagram CEO’s Thread about the rate limits with a number of complaints. These include not being able to follow other users, edit posts, message other users, not receive likes and more. The rate limit announcement post explained that users may wrongly be limited and if anyone was to experience that they should “let them know”. No doubt users were trying to let them know with one users announcing “I HAVE TAGGED YOU 100 TIMES” to get Threads attention.
What is Musk’s response to Threads rate limit?
Elon Musk is seemingly finding the Threads rate limit quite amusing. The Twitter CEO has responded to screenshots of the Threads limits on Twitter with posts saying “Lmaooo”, “Copycat” and “Seems oppressive”. Musk had released his own rate limits earlier this month which restricted Twitter users to a certain amount of tweets and retweets a day to counter spam. In the Twitter rate limits, he had given his users more information on the amount of tweets or retweets than Meta have currently given Threads users.
