Instagram’s challenger to Twitter has launched, so how can you get verified on Threads?

Authenticity and credibility have never been more valuable on social media platforms, which is one of the main reasons users are seeking out how to get verified on Threads. The good news is that if you’re already a verified user on Instagram, you’ll automatically be verified on Threads. If that’s not the case, here are the alternate ways you can get verified.

How to get verified on Instagram Threads

There are two different ways to get Threads. There’s Meta’s subscription-based feature called ‘Meta Verified’ and there’s the ‘Legacy Process’. The former hasn’t been globally rolled out yet, so depending on your region you might have to join a waitlist and get notified once it’s available.

Meta verified process

  1. Open the Instagram app.
  2. Ensure you’re logged into the right account you want the blue tick on.
  3. Ensure 2-factor authentication is enabled for your account.
  4. Open the hamburger menu icon in the top right corner of the screen.
  5. Tap Meta Verified.
  6. Upload a government-issued ID like a driver’s license or passport.
  7. Tap Get Meta Verified and proceed with payment ($14.99 or £9.99 monthly).
  8. Await approval

Legacy process

  1. Open the Instagram app.
  2. Ensure you’re logged into the right account you want the blue tick on.
  3. Open the hamburger menu icon in the top right corner of the screen.
  4. Go to Settings and Privacy.
  5. Go to Business/Creator tools and controls.
  6. Tap Request Verification.
  7. Fill in the form then tap Submit.
  8. Await approval.

For both these processes, it’s worth adding there are a few criteria you need to meet. Ideally, ensure you’re eligible before trying to get your account verified.

  1. You must be 18 or over.
  2. Have a public or private profile associated with your full name, aligns with naming standards and have a profile picture that includes your face.
  3. Have two-factor authentication enabled.
  4. Meet minimum activity requirements, such as prior posting history.
  5. Have a government-issued ID matching your profile’s name and picture.
  6. Meet Meta’s Terms of Use and Community Guidelines.

If you get cold feet about Threads, don’t forget you can deactivate or delete your account.
