If you’re wondering if Threads has hashtags, we’re going to tell you everything you need to know.
Social media has become synonymous with the hashtag. You’d be hard pressed to find any platform that doesn’t make use of the symbol, though Instagram Threads might just change that. On other services, hashtags are used to indicate a trend or collection of posts. They are used as a great way to indicate that your content belongs to a specific community or group, and is a powerful tool for exposure.
The current state of Instagram Threads is very embryonic. Its release was a surprise for many, and following this the usage of the platform shocked all. Without a trending or explore tab, the app is focused at the moment on targeting accounts you already follow through Instagram. Hashtags would surely increase the engagement and exposure of people’s posts – so why aren’t they there?
According to a Thread from Adam Mosseri (Head of Instagram), there’s a few features missing from Instagram Threads which are on their way shortly. Here they are:
- Hashtags
- Search
- Following feed
- Graph syncing
- Fediverse support
- Messaging
Mosseri has confirmed that these features might be in the works soon, though they’ll take time.
Alongside that, there’s a few other things which Mosseri has addressed on Twitter including ads, though they seem to bottom of the priority list.
Threads currently doesn’t use hashtags like Instagram or Twitter does, which is definitely unusual. It may just be because we’re used to hashtags for things like discoverability and tagging posts. Some people are actually enjoying the absence of hashtags, though it sounds like it’s a feature that’s on the way, at least according to Instagram head Mosseri’s post.
We’re going to be on the lookout for more information on Instagram Threads’ hashtags, though for now we could be limited in what we know. In the meantime, you might be interested in reading about how to use Threads on desktop, or how to see who you are following.
