Now that AMD’s latest GPU has made its entrance, we’re here to compare the RX 7600 XT vs RX 7800 XT. January 2024 is proving to be a busy month here at VideoGamer. The launch of the RTX 4070 Super and 4070 Ti Super kept us on our toes, and now AMD has muscled in on the action too dropping the RX 7600 XT release.
Before you find out where to buy the RX 7600 XT, it makes sense to see how it compares to other GPUs on the market. It is the first desktop GPU launched by Team Red since the RX 7800 XT was launched back in September of last year.
As both cards are part of AMD’s RDNA 3 range of cards, you can expect high performance, low prices and exceptional energy efficiency. It’s not all similarities however, we’ll also be digging into what really sets these cards apart, so you can get a sense of which one makes the most sense for you.

RX 7600 XT vs RX 7800 XT: Price Comparison
Price has traditionally been a strong point for AMD. If you compare the RTX 4070 Ti Super vs RX 7600 XT you’ll see that, despite both operating in similar performance ranges, it’s the AMD card that wins out on price.
As these are both recent AMD cards you can expect a similar level of price for performance. As it stands the RX 7800 XT is a few spaces above the RX 7600 XT in AMD’s lineup in terms of power. Let’s have a peak beneath the hood of these two cards and see what’s what. From the table above, you can see that the RX 7800 XT boasts overall superior specs. There are some key areas of overlap. Both make use of the same RDNA 3 architecture, which means similar internal technologies, such as AMD FidelityFX, as well as the same, groundbreaking, 6nm processor size.
They both also have the same amount of memory, with 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM. The news that the RX 7600 XT would feature this much memory came as welcome news to gamers. Compared vs the RX 7600’s meagre 8GB, the RX 7600 XT is much better positioned to handle memory-intensive games such as Baldur’s Gate 3.
Shaders are the core engines of a GPU’s performance, being where the calculations required for rendering complex images are crunched. Simply put, the more shaders the better performance will be. Because of this, it shouldn’t come as a shock that the mid-range RX 7800 XT wins out here with close to double the shader count – 3840 vs 2048 for the RX 7600 XT.
RX 7600 XT vs RX 7800 XT: Performance
Fortunately for us, AMD releases pretty detailed benchmarks for all its cards, meaning you can get detailed comparisons and a good sense of how their cards perform. For example, AMD lists the RX 7800 XT’s performance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as averaging 127fps – pretty impressive considering that is at 1440p, max settings and without any frame generation technology enabled, this is superior to what the RX 7600 XT is capable of.
The stats for the RX 7600 XT are all listed with these frame-generating technology turned on. This can make it seem like its performance is actually superior. For example, AMD lists the RX 7800 XT as producing an average of 95fps in Forza Horizon 5, while the RX 7600 XT is listed at averaging 113fps. However, this is with frame generation enabled, which is capable of doubling framerates in certain games.
Essentially, both of these cards are very capable at 1080p and 1440p, though, if you are playing in a game with less effective frame generation, the RX 7600 XT might start to struggle at QHD. Should you buy the RX 7600 XT Super or the RX 7800 XT?
There are several key similarities between the RX 7600 XT and the RX 7800 XT. Both are AMD RDNA 3 GPUs released within the last year and because of this, which one you go for, is more a question of the exact kind of GPU you are looking for, rather than of selecting an outright ‘winner’.
Essentially, both GPUs offer an excellent price-to-performance ratio. The difference between them is the performance bracket they are aimed at. The RX 7600 XT is a low-to-mid-range card, best suited for 1080p gaming, with the option to handle 1440p with frame gen enabled. The RX 7800 XT meanwhile sits comfortably in the mid-range, excelling at 1440p with the option of going up to 4K in certain contexts. Alternatively, you could use the 7800 XT at 1080p with blistering high frame rates, in order to gain an advantage in online shooters.
The important factors to consider when picking between these two cards are your maximum budget and the specs of your other gaming hardware.
