If you’ve been trying to play Diablo 4 during this Open Beta, you may be experiencing issues with the game crashing on launch. Here’s how to fix it.

Firstly, there’s a chance that Diablo 4 is crashing due to an error with a Windows command that tabs you out of the game. The error has been highlighted in this Blizzard forum, and we’ve actually also experienced the issue when we loaded up the game.

This is the error message we received following on from the crash, which we experienced after alt-tabbing out of the game.

How to fix Diablo 4 crashing after alt-tabbing?

We have found one fix that seems to be working with Diablo 4 crashing after alt-tabbing. Here’s what we have found on this other Blizzard forum.

The working fix is to delete the Diablo 4 folder from your Documents folder. After we tested this out – we’ve been able to alt-tab out of the game without it crashing.

This is hugely beneficial to anyone who is going to be engaged in long gaming sessions, as you won’t be locked into game throughout your whole session.

We’ve found a few other issues with Diablo 4 players queued for login, and if there’s anything you can do to circumvent it.

Why is Diablo 4 crashing after alt-tabbing?

Diablo 4 may be crashing while alt-tabbing due to the contents of the folder: LocalPrefs which has pre-generated initialisation settings for the game.

This file contains all of the in-game settings that you’re going to be adjusting in-game, but understanding this block of text is not really possible for the average human. We’re going to hope that Blizzard patch this issue soon, as it can be quite an annoying issue that could stop players from getting into the game.
