We have found one fix that seems to be working with Diablo 4 crashing after alt-tabbing. Here’s what we have found on this other Blizzard forum.
The working fix is to delete the Diablo 4 folder from your Documents folder. After we tested this out – we’ve been able to alt-tab out of the game without it crashing.
This is hugely beneficial to anyone who is going to be engaged in long gaming sessions, as you won’t be locked into game throughout your whole session.
We’ve found a few other issues with Diablo 4 players queued for login, and if there’s anything you can do to circumvent it.

Diablo 4 may be crashing while alt-tabbing due to the contents of the folder: LocalPrefs which has pre-generated initialisation settings for the game.
