While looking forward to the potential reveal of the Samsung Galaxy S23 release date, you might be wondering how does the Samsung trade in program work?
Ahead of Samsung Galaxy Unpacked, we’re anticipating a lot of buzz surrounding their latest phones. But what if you’ve got a Samsung phone already? Luckily the potential release of the Samsung Galaxy S23 could benefit you too.
Alongside offering up a pre order bonus for the Galaxy Book 3 and S23, you can also benefit by trading in an older smartphone (it doesn’t necessarily have to be Samsung) and receiving a discount when you purchase a Samsung Galaxy S23.
While this sounds all good, our first thoughts were how does the Samsung trade in program work?
How to trade in your phone to Samsung
If you’re in the US, you can head on over to the Samsung Trade In website. You can then select whichever phone manufacturer you’re looking to trade in – whether it’s from Samsung or elsewhere. After that, you can choose the model and then assess what value your phone has.
You will then be shown your trade-in options, including which phone you can get a discount on, and what the discount will be. Of course, this is conditional on a few things:
- Device powers on and holds a charge
- Does not power off unexpectedly
- Has a functioning display
- No breaks or cracks in the screen
- No breaks or cracks in the case
- No liquid damage
- Is not on a black-list
- Verified FCC ID
- Reset to factory settings
- All personal info removed
- All software locks disabled
- Is owned by you
If you’re eligible for a trade-in you will then be given the shipping address to send your unwanted handset to. After this, Samsung will assess your eligibility for the trade in, and if you’re successful, your new smartphone will be shipped to you alongside your in-store credit. If not, you can choose to have the phone returned to you.

We’re going to be keeping an eye out in the coming days if Samsung make any changes to their trade-in program after Galaxy Unpacked, though we can’t imagine they’ll change much.
