We’re comparing the RTX 4060 Ti vs PS5, to see how the latest PC tech from Nvidia compares to one of the best consoles on the market.

The RTX 4060 Ti looks set to be the next GPU to join Nvidia’s 40-series. We’ve not got official word on the RTX 4060 Ti release date or RTX 4060 Ti price rumors. That means we now know that the most affordable way to get your hands on the Ada Lovelace architecture is coming soon.

This has got people interested in the new GPU. Comparing its possible performance to other bits of gaming hardware is a great way to get a sense of its value and how it fits in among a crowded gaming market.

The PS5 is one of the best next-gen consoles on the market and this means great gaming performance. We’ve tried to cover all the elements of the PS5 though do have a slight focus on graphic performance, as this is the most directly comparable to the RTX 4060 Ti.

Comparing a console to a GPU can be fiddly. The PS5 features a GPU of its own as well as a CPU, SSD and a whole cooling system. To try and keep things simple we’ve broken it down into separate categories. Let’s get into it.

RTX 4060 Ti vs PS5 – specs

We’ve plugged the RTX 4060 Ti specs into this table to offer an overview of the kind of card we can expect to see.

You’ll notice there are two versions of the RTX 4060 Ti listed, with the only difference between the two being VRAM, one coming with 8GB, the other 16GB. There’ll be an impressively high CUDA core count and a pretty decent clock speed. These are important specs for getting a sense of the baseline graphics performance.

We’ve compared the PS5’s GPU here since these are the specs that can go head-to-head with the RTX 4060 Ti. But don’t forget all the other components a PS5 comes with. For example, you get 1TB of internal SSD storage, though only around 800GB is available for gaming once you consider the system files. There’s also a powerful 8-core custom Zen 2 CPU.

RTX 4060 Ti VS PS5 – performance

Specs are an important thing to consider but the primary function of paying attention to them is to try and get a sense of underlying performance.

We’re expecting the RTX 4060 Ti to be one of the best GPUs for 1440p, though it may struggle more at 4K. The RTX 4060 Ti’s performance will also be affected by the hardware around it. You’ll want a CPU, PSU and motherboard all able to match its performance. If you don’t already have these components this drives up the price of putting the RTX 4060 Ti to use significantly.

The PS5’s performance is less reliant on other bits of technology, though you will want one of the best TVs for PS5. These are also some of the best HDMI 2.1 monitors, as you want this latest cable technology to ensure you can make use of the 4K resolutions all the way up to 60Hz.

There’s a chance this 4K performance will be superior to the RTX 4060 Ti’s, though the latter is likely to be better at ray tracing thanks to its cutting-edge Lovelace architecture.

RTX 4070 vs PS5 – rumored price

The RTX 4060 Ti price on release day will be $450 and the card is set to be by far the least expensive way for gamers to get their hands on an RTX 40-series card and the Lovelace architecture that comes with it.

The PS5 meanwhile costs $500. While it’s possible its graphics performance will be worse, for just $50 dollars more you are essentially getting all the other key bits of hardware needed to game, apart from the gaming monitor. That includes SSD storage, 16GB of RAM and all the necessary cooling components. The PS5 even comes with a controller included.

RTX 4070 vs PS5 – final word

Usually with these comparisons, it comes down to a balancing act between price and performance, and while both are an important factor the difference between a PC and console gaming experience is vital to consider too.

If you pair the RTX 4060 Ti with the right other components, you’ll end up spending more overall money but will get superior performance in return. As well as this you’ll get the other benefits that come with PC gaming such as brilliant ray tracing and frame rates above 120FPS. You’ll also be left with a powerful desktop PC for other computing tasks.

If you are looking for a more affordable way to play the next generation of games, the PS5 brings this, as well as offering a dedicated bit of gaming hardware. While there are fewer games available for the PS5, the ones that are, are well optimised for it meaning that you can expect smooth gameplay.
