Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has been with us for a few days now, and we’ve had enough time fiddling around with the graphics settings to compare the Performance and Graphics modes.
Like what we saw with Final Fantasy 16, the performance of the game on PS5 struggles. One notable issue is with the Performance mode, which has seen pretty dire optimisation. A patch is coming to bring the graphics mode up to scratch, though for now it looks like you’re only going to be able to make use with what you’ve got.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best graphics settings for performance and fidelity
The best Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth graphics settings will ever so slightly improve your in-game experience. Realistically, as it’s a console game, you’re not going to have a whole lot of wiggle room to play with. On top of that, Square Enix has admitted that the performance mode is not up to scratch, and a patch will be coming soon.

- Optimisation: Performance, Graphics
- Brightness: 0-100
In terms of the actual graphics settings for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, there’s only two options you’re going to have. You can adjust the optimisation level between Performance and Graphics, and you can also have a play around with the brightness level.
Performance vs Graphics mode: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Choosing between the two graphics modes can be a little difficult in FF7 Rebirth, partly thanks to neither of them functioning as intended.
Performance Mode

Performance is smooth and the best way to play.
Our reviewer, Tom, has said the following: Graphics mode feels very choppy. You even feel it in the sluggish menus. Unless you’ve got like a fancy 4K TV with all the trimmings, the quality bump isn’t all that noticeable imo. Performance is smooth and the best way to play.
Even though Performance mode is the optimal way to enjoy FF7 Rebirth, the optimisation is still subpar. You’re going to experience choppiness, lag, and FPS spikes frequently, and crowded environments packed full of NPCs and animations are going to be at the heart of this.
Graphics Mode

Even worse yet, the Graphics mode is even worse. You’re only going to want to use this if you have one the best 4K TVs for gaming – as without all the fancy technical features, Graphics mode is pointless.
So, even while the textures are slightly better, stability and FPS are going to take even bigger hits. If you’re hoping to enjoy the game at 4K, don’t expect to steadily hit 60FPS.
How to improve performance in FF7 Rebirth?
At the moment, it’s going to be pretty difficult to actually increase your performance in FF7 Rebirth. As the PS5 game’s settings only allow you to change a single thing that can actually affect FPS, there'[s not a whole lot that can be done. The only thing you can actually do is wait for the next FF7 Rebirth patch to be released, then after that you’re going to see a slight improvement in graphics. No guarantees, though. In the meantime, you might want to consider who is telling the truth in the Swindling Seminar mission.
