If you’re a PC or console gamer, there’s a good chance you’ve been hearing a lot about The Last of Us in recent weeks, as The Last of Us Part 1 became available to play for PC gamers for the first time on March 28th 2023, with the option of a Deluxe Edition for superfans.
It was pretty big news when the critically-acclaimed game announced it could be purchased from Steam or Epic Games, after nearly a decade of being a PlayStation exclusive title. The transition to include PC compatibility follows in the footsteps of other games like God of War and Uncharted which until recently could only be played exclusively on PlayStation.
PC gamers who purchased the game on Steam have enjoyed additional features, like being able to dress Ellie in exclusive Left 4 Dead and Portal t-shirts too. Like PlayStation users though, there will still be the option to use a controller.
But what about the gamers who play on Xbox? What about them?
Could The Last of Us come to Xbox?
Sadly, it looks as though the TV show will have to do for Xbox gamers. At the time of writing, we’ve seen no evidence that The Last of Us Part 1 will be available on Xbox.
It’s not like we’ve never seen a PlayStation title transition to the Microsoft store before. However, given that The Last of Us is owned by Naughty Dog, a Sony-owned company, we think the chances are slim. We’ve generally noticed Sony and Microsoft’s biggest exclusive titles tend to stay exclusive to their respective platforms since these games are a big selling point to compete against each other.
That being said, we were a little surprised to see the Last of Us Part 1 launch for PC, and it does suggest the capability of PlayStation’s stance to soften towards making their titles available cross-platform.
