If you have been playing Baldur’s Gate 3 through the early access – you might be wondering where the save file location is so you can delete your save file.
As the game was launched by Larian in late 2020 in Early Access, a working portion of the game has been in the hands of players for quite some time. It wasn’t anywhere near complete, but was something of a playtest where fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 could fiddle around with different classes and characters, while the developers refined gameplay.
Now that the full game is ready to launch – Early Access is about to be wrapped up. Through their Twitter, Larian have stated the following:
If you’re struggling to find exactly where to find your Baldur’s Gate 3 save file location – we’ve got your back:
Baldur’s Gate 3 save file location
Firstly, you’re going to want to purge any game files from your PC. This will help with a fresh install.
- Go to appdata/local/larian studios
- Delete Baldur’s Gate 3
Next, we’re going to delete your save files from your Steam folder.
- Go to steam/steamapps/common
- Delete Baldur’s Gate 3
After this, you’re going to want to delete any save files which are saved to the Steam cloud. We can do this by deleting the following folder.
- Go to steam/userdata/(unique folder number)
- The folder number will be uniquely assigned per account, so depending on how many accounts you have you may need to manually find the right one
- Locate folder titled 1086940 and delete
After you’ve completed this – you should have completed a fresh deletion of everything Baldur’s Gate 3 related on your PC. Larian are recommending that you uninstall the game after deleting your save files, though if you do it the other way around (and follow this guide) you should be able to complete a fresh install of the game upon release without any major issues.
We’re going to be keeping an eye out on the latest information on all things Baldur’s Gate 3 related – including the best graphics settings, Denuvo, and controller support.
