The AirPods Max released in 2020 alongside the iPhone 12. They were the first pair of overhead headphones released by Apple that featured noise-cancelling technology, and their quality was generally well received by critics and audiophiles for their quality. That said, they demanded a premium price as they were, of course, Apple products.
While they haven’t yet announced the AirPods Max 2 – we think it’s entirely possible that the AirPods Max’s successor could launch at some point in the future.
We’re going to be taking a look at the latest rumors alongside having a look at Apple’s track record with releasing AirPods products.
AirPods Max 2 release date speculation
As Apple hasn’t actually confirmed whether or not the AirPods Max 2 are being released, we’re only really going to be able to speculate on their release. However, we do know that the AirPods Max didn’t perform that well in terms of sales despite their technical quality.
It’s no secret that the $549 MSRP of the headphones (which still stands today, three years on) is quite a bit more than many of us would want to pay. The AirPods Max 2 could be a chance for Apple to offer a much more affordable solution than the original.

It’s not like Apple to give up on a product line, so we can hopefully expect the AirPods Max 2 to release at some point. However, we don’t think the AirPods Max 2 release date will be soon.
When a new Apple product is on the horizon, the most reliable leaks are likely to come from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who regularly makes accurate commentary on Apple’s movements, and Ming-Chi Kuo, an influencer as equally reliable as Gurman.
There’s been surprisingly little in terms of rumors regarding the AirPods Max 2 until recently, when this was tweeted:
The tweet hints at the alleged production and shipment dates of the “new AirPods Max.” The two time-periods: “2H24 or 1H25” suggest either a late 2024 release or early 2025 release date for the AirPods Max 2. There’s no way to validate these leaks, though we’re going to be keeping an eye out for any future updates from Gurman or Kuo that might bolster these claims.
The leaks don’t seem to indicate a specific date for release as this probably hasn’t even been decided yet by Apple. It seems as though we’re not seeing the AirPods Max 2 for a while, so if you’re wondering if you should wait for the headphones – maybe not! While we don’t the AirPods Max 2 are coming soon, they might be on the – very distant – horizon. We’re going to keep having a look for the latest rumors and leaks that might tell us when the AirPods Max 2 will release, so make sure to frequently check back in with us.
