Ubisoft has announced a delay to its upcoming free-to-play shooter XDefiant, with no word on when the multiplayer shooter could return.

The announcement was made from the game’s official Twitter/X account, which broke the news to fans and thanked them for taking part in the game’s recent betas over the past few months. “Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent Public Test Session and continues to stand alongside us as we build XDefiant. The PTS once again showed us your appreciation for our fast-paced gunplay, uniquely crafted maps, objective driven modes and iconic Faction roster. But it also surfaced some inconsistencies in the game experience that we need to address prior to launching our Preseason. So we’ve made the hard decision to delay the Preseason of XDefiant.”

Continuing, the statement went on to say that “The team will continue working to address these issues and testing them to make sure we deliver on our goal of being a best-in-class arcade shooter. We will share more information about Preseason and testing as it comes.”

While no specific date for XDefiant’s release and Preseason had officially been given, it had been expected to arrive at some point around this month, with a statement from the game’s producer Mark Rubin back in September claiming the game was struggling to get through console certification, but was hoping to see a release by “early/mid October” at the latest. Alas, it looks like that is no longer the case, despite the fact it had already laid out its plans for several seasons worth of content post-launch.

The FPS, which features plenty of cameos from other Ubisoft properties was, for a little while, seen as a potential alternative to Modern Warfare 3, so to see it being delayed right as that game is in the middle of its incredibly popular beta is an interesting move. In fact, there were many Modern Warfare 2 players who couldn’t wait for XDefiant after growing frustrations with Call of Duty.

No new date has been given for XDefiant’s launch, so for now those looking forward to the free-to-play game will have to wait a little longer. For more on the game, check out our own XDefiant preview over here.
