XDefiant’s free-to-play availability remains an unanswered mystery for players of Ubisoft’s latest creation. Since several FPS titles nowadays need to be purchased before they can be played, some are now worried that the same will remain true for this action-packed offering from the studio that gave us Rainbow Six Siege.

With the game’s eventual release date steadily approaching, finding out whether XDefiant will be free has become more important than ever. So for this reason, we’ll be taking a look at whether or not you will need to shell out any of your hard-earned money just to play it.

Can you play XDefiant for free?

Yes, you can play XDefiant for free upon release so you won’t need to pay for the game just to experience it. Unfortunately, the developers are yet to reveal when its launch date is going to be so you may have to wait for a while before you can officially join in on the fun.

It’s important to keep in mind, though, that the inevitable microtransactions that are included within will naturally have to be purchased with money or the in-game currency. Since the latter is often difficult and time-consuming to collect, most players will undoubtedly use the former to get unique cosmetics and accessories.

According to Ubisoft’s closed beta blog post, those that were able to participate during the pre-release period will be given several exclusive items as prizes. It’s currently unclear, however, whether these will be purchasable within the in-game store once it’s been made available to the public.

XDefiance will also more than likely feature a seasonal battle pass much like other FPS entries like Call of Duty and Apex Legends. This will also inevitably entice players to spend some money in order to acquire the unique benefits that it will have on offer.

So with all this in mind, we recommend reading about how to get an XDefiant beta code so you can acquire all of the rewards that’s being given to all of the lucky participants. You can also check out the XDefiant beta dates and rewards here so you’ll know when it ends and what items you can expect.
