After the success of the multiple XDefiant betas over the last few months, players were happy to find out that while the last-gen versions of the game are still being worked on, the launch will prioritize PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X with last-gen versions arriving at a later date.

Taking to the XDefiant Twitter, the development team shared the following update:

A small update as we’re continuing to review feedback from the Open Session!

  • Plan is still to launch later this summer.
  • Launch will be on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. We’re working on last-gen platforms for later.
  • We’ll provide more updates as they’re available.

Over on the XDefiant Reddit, players were quick to note their enthusiasm at Ubisoft’s current-gen first approach. One player was happy to see the announcement saying, “After what happened with the cyberpunk launch, I’m not that mad now that you aren’t focusing on the last gen and current gen at the same time. Launch a polished product for the platforms that are supported, don’t launch an iffy product for all platforms.” Other players agreed, with user The7Reaper saying, “Good, focus more on the current gen, needs to happen more, it’s time to move on from the PS4 and Xbox One.”

Some users wanted Ubisoft to take it a step further and completely drop last-gen consoles altogether with one player noting that while it is probably “bad business” to leave a generation of players out of a free-to-play game, the current generation of consoles has been out for almost three years now and Ubisoft should “just call it a day and say they aren’t getting any.”

However, other players were more sympathetic with many pointing out that the accessibility to current-gen consoles simply wasn’t there until recently. Whether last-gen consoles are truly holding back the current generation of games is another discussion but overall, XDefiant players are happy with Ubisoft’s recent decision.

In other XDefiant news, XDefiant players beg Ubisoft to change one key feature before launch and Modern Warfare 2 players can’t wait for XDefiant as Season 4 is full of cheaters
