Wuthering Waves is getting a lot of attention thanks to the recent release of Changli’s banner. As a gacha game, there needs to be a hook to keep people playing, and while monthly content updates go a long way in keeping things fresh, it doesn’t change the fact that there is actually no end to the grind in these games.

It’s true for Genshin, Honkai, and ZZZ, where you’ll always be incentivised to farm – in the case of WuWa – Echoes to get the best stats and improve them to the maximum level. In Genshin, it’s Artifacts and in Star Rail it’s Relics, for Wuthering Waves you will want to build your characters with Echoes and herein lies a huge problem, as highlighted by the community.

A Reddit entry by OP Temporary_Lawyer4896 explores this issue in WuWa more, sharing the following post: “A rant about the current in-game economy“. The post goes into detail about the good, bad, and ugly when it comes to the ‘economy’, referring to the resources you need to farm Echoes and level them, all the while sparing currency to ascend characters, with Stamina being a key issue.

The post reads: “I’m already torn between farming Echoes, character ascension materials, weapon ascension materials, skill upgrades and the shell credit”, and goes on to say: “It feels like I’ll never have enough. Also tacet fields costing 60 stamina is insane”. You can read the post below:

One comment on the post agrees, summarising that the grind is a problem “because of how annoying it is to get correct main stat echoes”. From what I can tell, the problem in Wuthering Waves is fairly prevalent. As you level your Union Rank you raise the ascension cap for your characters, when you get to a certain level you can farm for better Echoes. This is how Genshin handles its character progression, but Original Resin in that game never seemed so at a premium compared to WuWa’s Stamina.

It’s not just Stamina, it’s the materials you need to enhance all the various aspects of your characters. Another comment on Reddit reads: “It is a lack of options to grind the mats we need & lack of plate”, which is a good point. With such a detailed system, it’s hard for Wuthering Waves to strike the balance of Genshin and other HoYo games that it has copied so much from already. The end remark of the OP’s post rings true, “It’ll be an endless grinding for one character after another just to make them playable”.
