Wuthering Waves multiplayer is unlocked as you progress through the game, letting you play co-operatively with two other friends at any time. In multiplayer, you can invite friends to your world or you can go to theirs. Whoever hosts has the main advantage, being able to open chests and trigger other events, while your friends won’t be able to do any of that.

How to play with friends

First, you and the people you want to play co-op with must reach Union Level 22. Getting this far will unlock co-op and let you start inviting people to your world. Next, you need to get yourself some friends, asap. Got some friends? Good. While exploring together, you can tackle challenges and share your precious materials by letting friends pick flowers and such. Here are the steps:

  • Reach Union Level 22.
  • Enter your friend’s user ID.
  • Join your friend’s world by finding them in the Co-op mode menu.
  • Press ‘Apply to join’ to send a request.
  • To invite a friend to your world, select them from the friends menu.

There is a neat function called ‘Direct Entry’ which lets friends come and go to your world as they please, without needing to request joining.

How many players are supported?

When playing Wuthering Waves multiplayer, three people can join a single co-op session. By having a full party, each person in the group is limited to one character. If the host only has one friend join, they can select two characters to use while your friend has one to fill in the last spot.

How does co-op work?

While playing with friends, you have some options available to you. The most convenient reason to play together is to help yourself or offer your materials out to friends who might need some ascension materials for their characters. If you’ve played Genshin, this is literally identical to how the co-op work there. You won’t need to wait for your resources to respawn in your world, so just grab some from your friend – just make sure you ask first.

Combat plays a big part in co-op mode, letting you and your friends hunt down shiny Phantom Echoes and fight enemies to grab other Echos that will help enhance your stats. This also extends to boss fights, letting you get multiple tries on one foe by switching between friends’ worlds. Each person playing multiplayer has instanced loot for boss battles, but once you snap up a material, it will be gone until it respawns.

Can you co-op with different servers?

To play with friends, you also need to be on the same server. If you are on the Europe server and your friend is on the America server, you won’t be able to find each other. Furthermore, the people you want to play co-op with must be the same World Level or lower to join. If you have a friend who has a higher world level than you, you cannot join them, but your friend can still come to your world.

You’re out of luck if you want to explore, open chests, and solve puzzles with your friends because it will only count for the host. If you find a chest in your friend’s world, you’ll have to find it in your own world to open it and get the rewards. The tougher content in the game, such as the Tower of Adversity and Depths of Illusive Realm does not support co-op. As such, you’ll have to tackle them yourself. Main story quests can’t be completed in co-op, nor can you clear other world quests together.
