Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is in full flow, with millions of fans around the world enjoying Infinity Ward’s stunning shooter game.

Along with a variety of weapons, equipment and perks, there are a load of other gameplay features that you’ll need to master in order to survive in either the game’s campaign or multiplayer.

What does prone mean in MW2?

Put simply, going ‘prone’ is a medical term that specifically relates to you lying flat on your stomach. In this position, you are able to use your weapon with more accuracy as you are maximizing your mass and surface area behind the firing shoulder.

Prone position is often the preferred position of choice for those using long-range rifles or sniper rifles, with the intention of killing a target some distance away. By going prone you’re able to better control both the recoil of the gun and improve stability, which will be reflected in less weapon sway.

How To Go Prone in Modern Warfare 2:

  • Press and hold the crouch button (O on PS / B on Xbox)
  • To get back up, tap the crouch button again

Note, when in the prone position, you are vulnerable to enemy fire from behind. Once you have killed an enemy, it’s recommended to reposition to avoid foes tracking you. To help discombobulate enemies, make sure you equip decoy grenades to avoid foes locking on to your last fire position.

In the MW2 campaign, prone is required in the Recon By Fire mission – where you’ll need to use it to evade enemy patrols. Note, enemies will hear you speaking via your PS5 control – so don’t say a word!
