Throughout its lifecycle, there have been occasions where Warzone players have gained an unfair advantage by spending their hard-earned CoD Points to obtain an overpowered weapon blueprint capable of dominating the ever-changing meta.
With Season 1 underway and fans patiently waiting for the return of Rebirth Island, it’s not a weapon that’s causing controversy. Players who own Black Ops 6 are now entitled to an exclusive incentive that enables them to level up faster than ever before leaving those yet to purchase Treyarch’s 2024 release with even more of a grind to Prestige Master.
Warzone’s latest pay-to-win drama
The ability to earn XP quickly in Call of Duty’s battle royale makes all the difference if you’re trying to reach a specific level or if you’re wanting to unlock all of the attachments for one of many weapons in the arsenal. Typically, Warzone allows players to use double XP tokens for a temporary boost in addition to double XP weekends that give the entire community a chance to benefit.
When double XP isn’t active, levelling up is a tedious process. Thanks to a new initiative, players who own Black Ops 6 will receive a permanent 30% XP boost giving them the best possible chance of ranking up as fast as possible.
While many are thrilled with the incentive, those without Black Ops 6 aren’t best pleased with the latest trick to level up quickly. “They gotta incentivise people to buy the game more this year,” claims one frustrated fan. “This pay-to-win tactic plue multiple companies having to market CoD heavily this year makes you wonder how the sales figures are looking.”
Are XP boosts pay-to-win?
Offering a Warzone XP boost to Black Ops 6 players isn’t necessarily a pay-to-win mechanic as you’re not actually gaining an unfair advantage in the same way as using a weapon that’s locked behind a paywall. For those without the additional 30%, it’s certainly frustrating for those missing out.
With Black Ops 6 still early in its cycle, the XP incentive aims to attract Warzone player who have yet to purchase the latest entry into the Call of Duty franchise. There’s every chance Activision decides to deactivate the boost once the game has hit a specific sales milestone but with the PC player count already dropping, some players dropping into matches may reach Prestige Master much quicker than others.
