Games Workshop, the company behind the iconic Warhammer tabletop series, has reported its biggest year of annual profit ever. Following its record-breaking report last year, the gaming company has reported another increase in profit this year.

In the company’s latest financial report, Games Workshop explains that a recent boom in popularity surrounding the Warhammer franchise has resulted in an almost 30% increase in annual profit.

Space Marine 2 continues to succeed

The company cites major game releases such as Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, the best-selling 40K game ever, and the 40K episode of the Amazon TV series Secret Level as major factors for the brand’s continued success.

“The mass market presentation of the Warhammer 40,000 IP via the (very) popular animation Secret Level episode 5: And They Shall No Fear and the video game Space Marine 2 certainly helped us,” Games Workshop said in their report. “We had more visitors to our own stores at that time and we sold [more] products relating to our IP.”

The company explained that “time will tell if this is temporary”, but Games Workshop is willing to “accept anything that helps us introduce our wonderful Warhammer hobby to new fans around the world”.

“Our job remains the same,” the company said. “To engage and inspire them enough that they come back for more.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is quickly being followed up with a sequel, although that doesn’t mean the end for post-launch content. An entire second year of content is coming to the game and a big anniversary update is planned to launch later this year.

Space Marine 2’s success is a huge boon for the Warhammer 40,000 brand with other 40K video games also profiting from the game’s success. It’s the type of success you rarely see, similar to how 2008’s Iron Man film reignited the Marvel universe, and developer Saber Interactive should be proud.
