Following the tumultuous launch of Wuthering Waves, Kuro Games immediately rectified the situation by providing compensation in the form of 10x Radiant Tides and a 5-star selector. Though these incentives didn’t immediately address the game’s fundamental issues, the 5-star selector was still a welcome freebie since it at least lets you get one of the best characters in the game. Unfortunately, a few players now regret their character choice after discovering that Calcharo isn’t all he’s cracked up to be.

Although he starts off strong in the early game, many of the criticisms surrounding Calcharo start popping up once you reach the later content. Calcharo’s significant shortcomings, according to a few player complaints, are that his mechanics are relatively clunkier than Wuthering Waves’ other damage-dealing options, like Jinhsi and Jiyan. Plus, the highly touted Calcharo/Yinlin combo is no longer as good as it once was, as other main DPS characters can utilize Yinlin’s skillset much better.

These major weaknesses have led to most players recommending against using your 5-star selector to get Calcharo. Though, of course, with the game’s meta continuing to change, he could eventually see enough buffs to turn him into one of Wuthering Waves’ premier damage dealers. After all, the dev team has since improved the game even more through recent patches by addressing its myriad performance and localization issues—and this upward trend should continue with the game in its entirety.

Now, if you haven’t used your 5-star selector yet or haven’t started Wuthering Waves, you’ll still have time to redeem it. The selector will be available for a year, and since it was given out on May 26, 2024, there’s still well over 10 months before it expires.
