Ubisoft Montreal has taken over development of the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Previously, Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai were working on the game, which Ubisoft has already delayed twice.

In a statement put out on Twitter, the company didn’t quite explain why this is the case:

“This decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it’s ready.”

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was originally supposed to launch in 2020, before being delayed twice.

Ubisoft Montreal, of course, is the game’s original developer. It first launched, in 2003, to rave reviews, and it changed the landscape of platform games. Things like Tomb Raider (both of its Crystal Dynamics trilogies) and Uncharted just wouldn’t have happened without The Sands of Time.

One part of the statement that is intriguing is the reference to regrouping “on the scope of the game.”

Does this mean that it will be longer, shorter, larger, or smaller than it would have been?
