Ubisoft has declared that free-to-play PvP roller derby title Roller Champions will finally launch on May 25.

The game puts two teams of roller blading athletes against each other on a race-track like courses. Both teams must complete laps of a circuit while maintaining possession of a ball, with a goal appearing around the track to score in once a lap has been achieved. However, the more laps your team does before you score, the more points you can earn. First to five wins.

Players will have to master special moves like passing, deflecting off walls and dodges to get the ball and keep hold of it. The defending team has plenty of moves of their own to deflect and take possession of the ball like dropkicks or even team-up tackles. You’ll be able to perfect these moves in the game’s practice mode before taking your skills online.

On top of Practice, there’ll be Quick Matches, Ranked Matches and Custom Matches to let you tweak the rules as you see fit and even hold custom tournaments. There’ll also be a number of limited time modes that change up the rules too. Cross-play matchmaking is also supported and the game has a Seasonal Roller Pass with free and paid tracks available. Full crossplay for custom matches will be added in a later season.

Roller Champions has been in the works for some time, and was playable as far back as 2019. It also held a closed Alpha in 2020, and reached a beta state by February 2021. You can check out an overview trailer and a cinematic one below. Roller Champions arrives on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 & PC. A Nintendo Switch version is also said to be in the works.
