Ubisoft’s troubled The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake now won’t see the light of day before 2023, the company’s confirmed.

The remake project was originally aiming to release in 2021 on its reveal in the Summer of 2020. Roughly a year ago, Ubisoft claimed that the project was now aiming at a 2022 release. However, earlier this year it was announced that the project had been handed to the original game’s studio Ubisoft Montreal. Then this weekend, several shops appeared to delist the game. These included major retailers such as Amazon and Gamestop, understandably causing concern among fans.

PC Gamer reached out to Ubisoft to investigate, and got an answer from an Ubisoft spokesperson. “We’re proud of the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learnings as the new team will continue the work to deliver a great remake. As a consequence, we are no longer targeting a FY23 release anymore and the game has been delisted.”

Ubisoft reassured fans not to panic, however. The project is apparently still moving along, and Ubisoft promise more updates as development rolls on. They’ve not given a new release date for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake yet, but Ubisoft’s FY 23 (or Financial Year 2023) ends on March 31, 2023. So don’t expect the game to arrive before then. Will the game make this latest deadline? Without the Prince’s time-travelling dagger powers, we’ll just have to wait and see.
